Brief synopsis of Sopranos, The - Series 2

This highly acclaimed HBO series stars James Gandolfini in a career-making performance as Tony Soprano, a Mafia leader who is having trouble dealing with his family and starts to see a shrink. The terrific supporting cast features Edie Falco as Tony's beleaguered wife, Carmela; Lorraine Bracco as Tony's put-upon psychiatrist, Dr. Melfi; Michael Imperioli as loose cannon Christopher Moltisanti; Steven Van Zandt as Silvio, owner of the Bada-Bing; and the incomparable Nancy Marchand, in one of the great television performances, as Livia Soprano, Tony's conniving, controlling mother. The writing, directing, and acting are impeccable, making for one of the most enjoyable viewing events in TV history.
This volume includes "From Where to Eternity" and "Bust-Out."

The finest thing to come out of American TV. Performances, writing, music are flawless. Each episode deepens your understanding of characters and the world they move in so that by the end you can spot every nuance and know exactly why they do what they do and why they are what they are. Whatever 'glamour' is hinted at in their world is more than offset by the brutality and misery that is always lurking off-camera and someimes takes centre stage. The concluding montage of the final episod illustrates this beautifully without a word being spoken. Superb.

The first half of this series is quite a let down after the splendid series 1. But true to form, the second half of the series returns to the splendid visual experience that is the sopranos.

I wonder why I like Sporanos so much. On the face of it there is not a lot there, but it pulls you in and keeps you close. I never can watch a single show, I always seem to watch just one more. I completely missed this on tv first time round. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Fanastic series, the family grows on you, even though they're a bunch of mafia thugs, you can't help but find yourself liking some of them. Tony Soprano is particularly interesting, many parts to his character, vulnerable, bullish, violent, gentle, murderer, lover, father, husband, the list goes on. The last episode is particularly good, were a number of loose ends are tied up!!!
