Rated - 4 starsBrilliant Sci-Fi Series

This brilliant sci-fi series is set in the year 2063 and centers on a squadron of first year Marine corps fighter pilots who's mission is to protect Earth from a newly discovered race of aliens out to conquer us. I remember this series showing late night on BBC 2 around 1996-7 and loved it. It's a good looking cast and the A.I mercenaries are great! Im not sure how it would compare to some of the newer shows and I wouldn't describe it as particularly original, but its good fun and worth a look.

This is 24 episodes of fantastic TV scifi that changed the genre! For the first time in Tv scifi we were treated to a dark , gritty, war with great characters that just happened to be a scifi!

The characters had depth and drove the show forward. The story equally impressive is about a war between the humans and a race called the Chigs during 2060. The story follows a group of young recruits who become the 58th squadron AKA The Wild cards in their exploits in the war. As marines they fight where needed on land, sea or in Space.

The humans aren't all powerful with shields too keep them safe and it makes it all the more exciting. Fans of the new BSG will love this and recognise how similar S:AaB is to BSG 2004.. I wouldn't be suprised if BSG was highly influenced by this show made 9 years previous.

Beyond the war and dealing with brotherhood between the soldiers and the consequences of war we have political intrigue, conspiracies, racial descrimination and religious stories to make this a cut beyond the average show. S:AaB can be a deep or as shallow as you want it to be but its nothing but spectacular.

Fox cancelled another modern classic and you can see why its so well remembered when you see it. it stands the test of time.

Notable episodes are 'who monitors the birds?', 'Never No More', 'the angriest Angel', 'Ray Butts' and of course the season finale 'Tell Our moms...'.

although the entire season is fantastic.

The Pilot has some weak CGI (well it a TV show from 95/96!)in the first third- half but improves drastically for the end of the pilot ep and each subsequent episde. the dogfights are exciting and engageing as are the many space battles.

The creators are also behind many xfiles eps and several big screen scifi films such as Final Destination

well over due a UK DVD release!!! rent or buy it this show is must watch scifi
