Brief synopsis of The Warriors

Violent action story of the street gangs of New York who struggle to survive against each other. The action takes place at night in the sub-culture of gang warfare that rages from Coney Island to Manhattan to the Bronx.

Rating of 4 stars out of 5 Radio Times

This vivid and violent gangland thriller from director Walter Hill is, essentially, an urban western. It centres on a New York gang whose members battle their way back to home turf following the murder of a rival gang leader during a ceasefire meeting. Despite the gritty storyline and locations, there's a doomed, romantic feel to the film and a poetic quality to the exhilarating fight scenes. Hill sketches the characters with some sympathy and is rewarded with excellent performances from the largely unknown cast, led by Michael Beck and Drugstore Cowboy's James Remar.

stars out of 4 Halliwell's Film Guide

Slick exploitation movie, a retelling, in urban teenage terms, of Xenophon's epic retreat with his Ten Thousand following the death of Cyrus; the pace is fast, and the action violent, though stylised.

Variety

"...Vivid lensing....Deft editing....The cast of unknowns is remarkably strong..."

A film about a gang called the Warriors who are acused of killing a man who wants to join all the gangs together to rule. The each gang travels to the meeting place but with only 9 members and no weapons. When the killing takes place the The Warriors have to travel back across country to their own ground. Along their journey they encounter various other gangs and have to fight their way out so to get home and prove thier innocence. A good cult film, good action.

The story concerns a small street gang from Coney Island, who attend a huge summit of all the gangs in New York. When Cyrus, the gang lord in charge is murdered, the Warriors take the blame. They rush home to Coney Island, with every other gang, plus the N.Y.P.D. on their trail. For all the violence in this movie, there is a high camp factor. Most of this comes from the various colourful gangs. There are the High Hats, the Boppers, the Punks, the Orphans, and of course, the Baseball Furies.

The Warriors is an entertaining film, but does lag in parts, and the plot is not the greatest ever written, but, the action scenes are incredible, and some of the dialog is highly amusing, but there are some boring stretches to battle through. The music is superb and the movie is worth watching for this alone.

This film is the best film of it's genres: 1970's Period Pieces; Fake-Gritty Gang Films; Films Set in NY With Wet Streets; Films to Model Your Halloween Costume After; etc.

Hilarious, with memorable quotes, yet it's actually in many ways a good film.

This film has a fairly thin plot about a gang trying to get back to their own territory after being accused of murdering the leader of another gang. It's entertaining and is supposedly being remade, definitely worth a look.
