Play him in a game and he's tackled by lack of confidence. Then an old crone gifts him a pair of magic football boots and Jimmy is soon inspiring his team to the finals of the inter-school championships. With big guns Robert Carlyle (as his sports teacher) and Ray Winstone (as an ardent suitor in a subplot involving Jimmy's single mum), this has moments that are corny, clunky and crass, but it's still hard to dislike.
