This is by no means an easy film to watch. It is however a classic, not in the sense of over-written and over-hyped, but a superbly written drama with real characters in it. Through six hours characters and story develop towards the poignant end.

This has to be the best western I have watched in a very long time. It even prompted me to write my very first review. Duval has a dominating character and realistically portrays the kind of man it would have taken to be a successful Texas Ranger in the 1800s. Lee Jones and numerous others provide an excellent supporting cast in this unbelievably good film. This must now be one of my all time greats. Don't miss it.

This is the finest western ever made. Okay, it's long, but you'll be wishing there was more by the end.

It basically tells the story of several cowboys on a cattle drive from Texas to Montana, but it's packed full of gritty action and unforgettable characters. Both Tommy Lee Jones and Rovert Duvall put in the best performances of their lives.

If you like westerns you cannot afford to miss this series. If you don't like westerns you might find yourself surprised.

The novel it's based on is also a masterpiece and won the Pulitzer prize.
