Brief synopsis of The Far Pavilions
This made-for-TV adaptation of M.M. Kaye's novel is a haunting love story set in imperial 19th-century India. Ben Cross plays Ashton Pelham-Martyn, an Indian-reared British officer who is assigned to safeguard a group of Indian princesses en route to meet their new husbands-to-be. During the voyage, Ashton discovers that one of these women is Anjuli (Amy Irving), a girl he adored when he was just a child. Euphoria gives way to despair, however, when they realise that their romance cannot have a happy ending....
