Brief synopsis of The Key

This erotic outing by Tinto Brass (CALIGULA) is based on the novel by Junichiro Tanizaki. Husband and wife Nino and Teresa attempt to revive their sex lives by each writing their most intimate fantasies in separate diaries. A series of resulting sexual adventures liberates them from their tired routines--but at a great cost to Nino, who is 18 years older than his wife.

As Groucho Marx said, if you like this sort of thing then this is the sort of thing you'll like. Plenty of soft porn sex, with full frontals (female only, though there's one scene which nearly has a male full frontal), and if stockings and suspenders are your thing you'll love it since there is hardly a scene where someone isn't showing her stocking tops or more. Having Frank Finlay dress up in bra, silk panties and stockings and suspenders was, however, totally bizarre. The plot is minimal and obviously just a vehicle for what I gather is Tinto Brass's usual style of filming. He says "I always look at a girls' bottom. Bottoms never lie." That just about sums it up.

I love the way I've rented quite a few Tinto Brass movies, and I can use the same review for all of them. I rented so many because they show so much promise, but ultimately fail to deliver anything.

The stories are good, but never quite keep you interested. The nudity is there, and there are a few sex scenes but none really keep my interest. They just show Tinto Brass's fascination with female bottoms, and thats about it.

I love the actresses he uses, they all have a certain 40s glamour look. However this doesn't save the film from being mediocre at best.

Now, I can quite happily copy and paste this into the other films of his I've rented.
