Brief synopsis of Carry On Cabby

In this CARRY ON film, Hattie Jacques stars as Peggy, a young wife unhappy with her workaholic husband, Charlie (Sidney James), who owns a cab company. Peggy decides to get back at Charlie by starting her own cab company--one that hires beautiful girls as the taxi drivers. Needless to say, business starts booming. This cab comedy also features Kenneth Connor, Charles Hawtrey, and other Carry On regulars.

Proving a fare's a fare in love and war, the best of the black-and-white Carry Ons began life as a script by the then little known Talbot Rothwell entitled Call Me a Cab. Having just parted company with regular scriptwriter Norman Hudis, producer Peter Rogers brought Rothwell into the fold and he went on to pen the next 19 films in the series. Pitting Sid James against the long-suffering Hattie Jacques, the battle between Speedee Taxis and Glamcabs is packed with hilarious incidents and cracking performances, not least from Kenneth Connor and Esma Cannon as the respective loyal lieutenants and Charles Hawtrey as the hapless Pint-Pot.

Carry On Cabby is one of my favourite Carry On's.

The story is about Charlie, the owner of Speedee Taxis played by Sid James, who is something of a workaholic much to the dismay of his neglected wife, Peggy played by Hattie Jacques.

So Peggy decides to stand up and make her husband take notice, and starts her own taxi business - called Glamcabs and in doing so, practically steals all of her husbands regular clients.

So he sends in one of his own drivers 'undercover' to find out what its all about.

mayhem ensues!!!!

well worth watching.

What a classic! The opening menu display with a full-frontal display of Sid James' bracket is enough to make you laugh. Sid James had the kind of face that never seemed to change- he always looked old!

This seems to be far less tacky than than the later Carry Ons, with far less obvious smut and a character portrayed by James that perhaps we can all relate to.

If you enjoy watching absolutely georgeous classic cars being driven by a classic 60's British cast, then get this.

What can I say, they were made on a budget and on a limited time scale, but time and time again they provide a very entertaining hour and a half viewing. This one is about a lady (Joan Sims) trying to get her husband's (Sid James) attention by setting up a rival cab firm .. it proves very successful, run by women ... very glamourous women. Lots of the usual types of jokes, but also great fun and done at a cracking pace. Guarenteed to make you laugh.

The film is a classic, never beaten. Unfortunatly the disk sent to me didnt work, i now await a replacement copy and then i can get back to enjoying Sid James at his best. So! Carry On!
