Brief synopsis of Wishing Stairs

Legend has it, if you climb the 28 stairs leading to the school dormitory and count each step aloud, a 29th step will appear and a spirit will grant you a wish. If your intentions are honorable, your wish can be a blessing of good fortune. But at this high school, where jealousy and paranoia reign supreme, malicious wishes are about to unleash an unspeakable evil. Be careful what you wish for, some wishes were never meant to be granted...

Rated - 4 starsVERY GOOD FOR SUBTITLED FILM

DEBBIE MOORE from Cheshire , 10/02/2006

I thought that I might find this film hard to watch as I did not realise that it was subtitled. I did watch it though and thoroughly enjoyed it. The subtitles came up in plenty of time to read them and also to watch the film without missing anything.

The film was easy to understand at first but got a bit difficult in the middle then seemed to sort itself out. The end bit seemed to have a bit of The Ring theme about it. Overall my impression of this film was very good and would watch it again at a later date. The film centres around a girls school. One of the girls gets accidentally pushed down stairs and later dies, I presume because of the fall, that part was not made very clear. Well one of the other pupils wishes on the 29th stair for the dead pupil to come back, which she does, then all havoc reeks.

I would recommend this film to anybody who can watch a film with subtitles but if you dont do subtitles then dont do this film.

You will be missing out though.

Definitely a lesser entry in the canon of Asian horror films Wishing Stairs offers little new in a predictably plotted affair that rips-off better films. Only watch it if you're an Asian horror film completist.

Rated - 2 starsPromising start, then falls flat on its face...

A customer from Bedford, England , 27/02/2006

I am a fan of asian horror/thriller, however, it starts off promising but I felt it lost its way as the film progressed. Confusing yet predictable end that felt like it was ripped off from its Japanese counterparts. All in all a disappointing movie of its genre.

Rated - 2 starsNO.....MORE...STAIRS!!!!! ARRRRGH!

Michael Smith from Spennymoor, County Durham , 09/05/2006

Gonna keep this short & sweet, only rent this if you like scenes of people climbing stairs (and counting while doing it!) and ballet. I must say, I'm a fan of neither. I am however a fan of Korean horror, I like the slow build, the creeping tension, but this takes it too far. Best watched with your finger on the fast forward button. Or better still, rent out A Tale of Two Sisters' instead.
