Brief synopsis of Because Of Winn-Dixie

A smart, resourceful young girl, Opal thinks people forgot how to share the joy. She's tired of moving from small town to small town with her father (Jeff Daniels), a preacher at the Open Arms Baptist Church; she just wants to find a home and stop being lonely. One night she wishes for a best friend, and that companion arrives in the form of a magical, trouble-causing dog she comes upon in a Winn-Dixie supermarket. She names the dog Winn-Dixie, and they become inseparable, making friends with many of the town's most unusual, quirky characters, including gruff and scruffy Otis (singer-songwriter Dave Matthews), who carries around his guitar and works at the rather unique Gertrude's Pet Shop. Academy Award winners Eva Marie Saint (as Miss Franny the librarian) and Cicely Tyson (as the mysteriously daffy but charming Gloria Dump) provide excellent support as well. Among the musicians on the infectious pop soundtrack are Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, the Beu Sisters, the Finn Brothers, and Leigh Nash, whose 'I've Gotta See You Smile' will make audiences do just that.

A so-so family film that's all been done before, and better. Parents, do yourself a favour, stick it on for the kids on a Sunday morning and go back to bed. You won't miss much but the kids will enjoy it.

It's a 'nice' story about a little girl who 'rescues' a stray dog and they become inseperable friends. Her mother abandoned her when she was three and her father is a priest that moves around dragging her with him, making it difficult for her to make friends.

Like I said, it's all been done before. Everything about the film is OK but it doesn't shine in any department.

Rated - 4 starsVery good feel good movie for mongrel dog lovers!

A customer from Berks , 09/10/2005

This is a highly enjoyable movie for the whole family. It revolves around a mongrel dog found by young girl in a supermarket, who she adopts by taking the dog home to her preacher father ( Jeff Daniels). Set in small Florida Town Louisiana, the dog becomes girls best friend as she loves the dog, as not having any friends, and her dads holding the undisclosed information of what happened to Opals mum 'til she is old enough.

This movie is great matinee stuff, with a friendly pet store owner who plays the guitar to relax the animals in the store and a answering back Parrot who is scared of dogs.

The characters are great and are very accurate in comparison to the novel.

Watch out, cats and mice! and this dog is infuriated by thunder storms.

This is for people who enjoy Lassie as it has a great feel to the sort of stories with everybodys favourite collie. It is not Beethoven, but better than my Dog Skip!

This was an excellent film, with a true feel good factor.

It shows an understanding into the rights and wrongs of people who forget how to be good neighbours.

I would recommend any person to watch this and not cry!
