Brief synopsis of Medal of Honor: Frontline

A completely new game from the ground up, Medal of Honour Frontline on the PS2 puts the player in the shoes of Lt. Jimmy Patterson, in a quest to infiltrate the German frontline and steal the HO-IX flying wing. An experimental weapon developed by the Nazis, the HO-IX was so powerful that it could have turned the tide of World War II.

With the assistance of Hollywood veteran Capt. Dale Dye, assigned to certify the authenticity of the game, the developers have delivered in Frontline a multitude of scenarios based on popular situations throughout WWII. A wide variety of gameplay premises are offered throughout the levels with everything from stealth killing, sabotage, death-defying runs and, of course, the famous storming of Omaha Beach required of the player.

The overall essence of the War has been very faithfully recreated in Frontline, with extremely detailed characters and scenery complimented by shockingly-realistic sound effects. Great smoke and dust effects and a camera that shakes along with the action add to the equation, resulting in a WWII console game currently unrivalled for authenticity.

As with Medal of Honour Allied Assault on the PC, Frontline is to games what Saving Private Ryan is to films: Its an atmospheric, faithful recreation of life in the trenches.

Rated - 2 starsA Bit Dull...

A customer from Coventry, England , 27/11/2006

I don't play many first person shooters but I know a dull one when I see one, in the game the graphics seem far too bland with most colours being gray, black or brown which shows a lack of detail from the developers and isn't as detailed as Call Of Duty. The camera also feels to close to the gun for some strange reason and this makes the environments feel much smaller ruining gameplay. Overall I wouldn't recommend this game and I would advise to try another war shooter.

Has to be one of the best in the Medal of honor Series, much better than the first M.O.H, but yet again...another beach landing level

Rated - 4 starsOn the Frontline!

The Medal of Honor games have always been fantastic, utilising brilliant graphics which an atmospheric soundtrack. With the advance in technology from the PS1 to PS2, the overall franchise was given a facelift. Levels became bigger, graphics became more detailed, the sound effects became more realistic and the music became more grandiose.

This time around, the story picks up in Normandy, on D-Day, and we follow Lt. Jimmy Patterson, embarking through the bloody battlefield, infiltrating German ranks and helping the Allies make their advance on the Nazis.

The game features two types of play. The normal shoot-'em-up style we're used to, and espionage. The espionage levels work very well, using I.D. papers and uniforms to fool enemy guards, and the shooting levels are slick and dynamic. Most importantly, even though the game can only be completed by 'getting to the end', there is different ways of reaching the end. It is down to the player whether to go in all guns blazing, or take a more careful approach.

Unfortunately, the game does have a couple of glitches, but none that have an effect of gameplay, and noticeable if you go looking for them. Also, repetitiveness does kick in after the second play. There is no multiplayer either sadly, however, GameCube and Xbox versions do feature split screen option. Another missing treat could have been the option of taking on the Nazi war machine in a co-operative mode.

Flaws and drawbacks aside, Frontline is still a brilliant game. The sheer level of realism, coupled with overall enjoyment make it not only a fantastic addition to the series, but the leader in the franchise. Or to summarise, it's a very enjoyable history lesson.
