Brief synopsis of Emmanuelle

A beautiful and restless wife of a French diplomat is introduced to an uninhibited world of sexuality. Based on a banned French novel, the film went on to be France's all-time box office smash on its releaseand is present here UNCUT, for the first time ever in the UK!

Rated - 3 starsThe Big E

Curiousity got the better of me and I thought I'd rent this film due to its reputation. Although well made it has certainly dated considerably. What was probably quite shocking, cutting edge stuff in 1974 now seems fairly tame. It is still a very erotic movie, hinting more than showing a lot of the sexuality it conveys. The plot though is a little slow with no real feeling of it going anywhere fast, and the music is the usual dreadful jazz that starts as soon as someone undresses. Worth watching as a classic, and ten times better than most adult movies but still only worth three stars.

This is the original, they simply don't make 'em like this anymore, it is pure unabashed beautifully made top quality soft porn. Very easy on the eye, every frame a joy to watch.... beware of cheap shoddy imitations, there are hundreds out there.

Rated - 2 starsrevisit how life has changed over the years

I first saw this film when it caused a sensation as it was released into the cinemas in 1974. For its time it was received with absolute acclaim and saw Sylvia Krystal at her best. However, may be I was too naive, but failed to notice the sound had been dubbed. Perhaps I was otherwise engaged at the time! Now having revisited it on DVD the story came flooding back to me how a young girl finds herself in a strange country, bored and having to find her true self. Self awareness is very much on the list of things to do. Emmanuelle explores all avenues of her sexuality but there never seems to be a sensible storyline! Give it a go if only to revisit how life has changed over the years.
