Get Over It on DVD (2001)
RelatedCritics ReviewsThe bland title does no favours to this better-than-average teen movie. Ben Foster, fresh from his terrific performance in Barry Levinson's excellent but hardly seen Liberty Heights, plays a teenager who's dumped by his longtime girlfriend. He signs up to join her in the school's musical version of A Midsummer Night's Dream in an attempt to win her back. He's aided and abetted by his best friend's younger sister. As she's played by the drop-dead gorgeous Kirsten Dunst, there are no prizes for guessing that maybe young Ben is making moon-eyes in the wrong direction. Daft thing is that it takes him the whole film to realise it. Smartly written and sassily acted, the film wisely avoids drawing too many parallels between its unrequited-love theme and that of Shakespeare's play. And, as a bonus, there's an inappropriate but entertaining cameo from Martin Short, as the play's campily neurotic producer.
