Brief synopsis of Shadow of the Colossus

As a lone horseback traveller, your destiny is entwined with that of a lifeless young girl who lies on an altar within a vast temple. The girl is helpless, her soul has been lost and there is only one way to retrieve it... Following a voice from the heavens, you embark on a dark and dangerous quest to seek out and slay the enormous wandering monsters that roam this strange world. Only you can defeat these formidable Colossi, and in doing so, only you can bring life to the girl who lies waiting on the altar.

Each beast is immense in size and strength, the team's new and unique motion control system giving an incredible depth of motion density. The 'Organic Collision Deformation' system enables the player to grasp and climb the Colossi with precision, stealth is also essential in navigating these ever changing, moving and dangerous terrains. You must climb these terrifying beasts and strike the deathblow that will bring them crashing to the ground. However, slaying such fearsome opponents is no easy task - before these enemies can be toppled, you must first discover how to defeat them. And the challenge does not end there; after you have slain one monster you must begin the demanding task of finding the next...

Rated - 5 starsBack to the old skool.

I love this game. For a while now, I have been getting a bit annoyed at the complexity of some games nowadays. Unlike in the old days where you could just pick up a game and play when you wanted something not very taxing, these days it sometimes feels like you always need to read a novel and work out what you were doing before you can even continue. Do not get me wrong, I sometimes like deep, well thought out games, but sometimes you just wanna pick a pad and kill something, without to much studying. This is were this game is great, the graphics are amazing and the bosses are massive and the landscapes are huge. But there are no items to collect, levelling up to do blah blah blah blah. All it is, you have sixteen bosses, that are really really really huge, using your sword and trusty horse you search the land for these colossi, when you find one you have to find its weakness and take it out and thats it. This game you can pick up and play whenever and the atmosphere it creates is really good, we was amazed at how addictive it can be.

Rated - 5 starsMindblowing....definitely at first, anyway

In many ways this game is awesome...the concept is so bravely innovative too; a sort of 3d adventure/exploration game just made up of massive bosses to kill. Deserves 5/5 just for the originality. Beautiful graphics and visual effects, stunning monsters and enemy AI, varied and huge landscape to explore (although you don't really need to to find most of the colossi)...shame that it's such a marmite job; everyone is either gobsmacked by its ease, innovation and beauty, or others moan that its just repetitive and dull. Either way you can't beat the feeling of finding your first colossus at the top of that cliff and being stunned at the sheer scale of it, then the rush you get when you kill it for the first time. Brilliant and creepy cut-scenes, too - it all adds to the storyline. Shame the dynamic orchestral backing music gets a bit cheesy, but hey go with it. Games like this that tick all the boxes don't come along very often.

the game is good though its repetitive. you have to find then kill the beast then do it again but it is quite fun to kill the beasts.1 small thing there is no henchmen or anything like that just the beasts dont get me wrong its still good .but again repetitive i recomend you rent it and try it out.

Rated - 2 starsBeautiful but ultimately boring.

I rented this because OPS2 magazine have been banging on about how good it is since it came out. I played a demo of it on one of their discs and liked it. But, to my horror, the full game is probably the most boring peice of gaming software i've ever come across. The whole game is, in a nutshell: boring cutscene, long trek, struggle with huge beast (not to mention the fiddly controls, terrible camera and a character who moves like a crippled chimp), finally kill huge beast, back to the temple and repeat. Basically a string of boss battles. I only got to the 3rd collossus and was in no way compelled to carry on. The story is boring like one of those supposedly enchanting tales that in reality put caffine addicts to sleep. After falling off the beast for the hundredth time because my little bloke couldn't hang on for more than a minute, i just lost interest. If you like boss battles, awkward controls and a story that moves as quick as a tranquilised granny then rent this. If you actually want to have FUN, don't.

The first thing im going to say is that im glad i didnt buy this with my own money. I agree that it is inovative in the sense of the idea of the game and the graphics were good. With most games you go through long stages just to get the thrill of killing the boss and in this you dont have to which is a nice change but i found it very repetative and often found myself wishing for more inbetween. With a total of about 6 hours game play in my experience as im sure many other hard core gamers would find, is a bit dissapointing. Saying that, i have played many fantastic games that have ended sooner. This is my first review and i generally never read them and decide to make my mind up for myself. More people have liked it than not so give it a go, one man's misery is another man's joy.
