Rated - 5 starsMy Best Creation Yet!

Joss Whedon from Los Angeles [Highly rated reviewer] , 03/01/2007

Don't rent this, buy it! I spent ages creating this just for you all to get it for free.

Best season of Angel by far, its exactly like Buffy in many ways, but also alot darker and adult.

Rent and enjoy!

Rated - 5 starsA great spin off series

Angel is the adult spin-off to Buffy The Vampire Slayer and although can be viewed as a stand alone show, is best watched alongside Buffy Season 4.

Definitely a must for Buffy fans, but also for those who haven't previously watched the show.

Rated - 4 starsSublime toothy fun

Angel manages to pull off the enviable trick of being better than the series that spawned it. A more rounded cast of characters, better and longer-term plotting and a more interesting city setting make it one of the best TV series in recent years.

For the eleven people left in the world who don’t know, Angel is a vampire cursed with a soul who leaves the California small town of Sunnydale and heads to LA after his relationship with Buffy the Vampire Slayer turns sour. There he starts a detective agency specializing in ‘unusual’ cases and is joined by ex-cheerleader Cordelia, plus comedy Irish half-demon Doyle and eventually rubbish ex-watcher Wesley.

Series 1 concerns itself mainly with establishing the characters and format, and introducing what is surely Angel’s strong point as a series – the shadowy evil (or at least morality-free) law firm Wolfram & Hart. Crossover appearances from Buffy are thankfully kept to a minimum, and Angel is allowed to develop independently.

Pulling out specific episodes would be nit-picking, as the standard is so high throughout – once you’ve got past the first couple that is, as they are substandard X Files episodes with extra teeth. The series finale is, of course, excellent, and ends on a twist which is guaranteed to have you ordering Series 2 within seconds of the credits rolling!

Oh admit it, sometimes everyone likes a simple, straightforward TV show. I haven't seen the whole series yet...but from the first disk, Angel appears to be a cheerfully selfaware show about a tragic hero saving the world one person at a time. Of course, the world in question is full of demons, vampires and monsters.....but hey, apparently demons are just people really. I suspect that in the end, it's going to turn out to be the plain old ordinary humans that are capable of the real evil. Although a spin-off from another series, viewers don't have to be fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to keep up with the plot in this series. I doubt it's going to change the face of television...but it's more entertaining than what's on TV most nights.
