Brief synopsis of Burnout Revenge

Burnout Revenge is the sequel to 2004's award-winning Burnout 3: Takedown, which in March 2005 won three BAFTA Awards, including Best Racing and Best PS2 game categories, as well as being crowned Best PS2 game at the Joystick Awards 2004. In addition to tricked out new race, crash and road rage modes, Burnout Revenge takes the series' blistering speed and spectacular destruction to dizzying new heights with an all-new Revenge mode, challenging gamers to battle the clock and unleash their frustrations on rush hour traffic.

Rated - 5 starsSlightly Biased

I've always loved the Burnout games, so I am ever so slightly biased here. I did like this game, though I wouldn't dream of trying to complete every last part - I wouldn't go through for gold in every level, nor would I fill my takedown list or any of the other bonuses for that fact. But for the sake of getting a game you can just pick up and play - it's worth it. The main bad thing is the loading time - but it's a curse of many a ps2 game. Hopefully with the ps3 release we'll have something to scream about!

Firstly I will admit that I did have a lot of fun playing this game but with about 25% completed I got a little tired. I think there were two factors contributing to that. The first is that getting through an event seems to involve quite a lot of luck as you can't predict where your rivals or the traffic will be and it takes the shine off of recieving a gold arward for an event. The other is that there does appear to be a lot of different types of events but they all boil down to driving as fast as you can and whiping out your oponents. Obviously the crash events are quite novel but they can become quite tiresome as well. They're more a novelty than anything.

There is a lot of fun to be had here though. The tracks are quite interesting with all sorts of obstacles and traffic to avoid and the pace is extremely quick. The objects around the track aren't just there for decoration either as you can get extra points for forcing other racers into them. This is one of the most satisfying parts of the game infact as you may have been chasing a competitor for some time so to take the lead off them and kill their car in the same move is sure to put a smirk on your face! All in all I'd say there is a very polished game here that's very enjoyable in the short term but I can't see many people getting 100% completion.

The graphics are good and the gameplay is excellent. The only fault I have found with it is that there is alot of loading of the game, which it gets a bit tedious. The other thing is, when you racing, if you ram someone into a wall there will be a slow motion view of their crashing which is very good, but it put you off the game and usually causes you to crash. Other than that its a very good game with a number of driving modes (race, elimination, time trial, traffic attack as well as others) and depending on how do on this challenges will depend on you star rating. The more stars you have for each challenge the quicker you get to the next driver rating (level) which unlocks new cars and tracks
