Brief synopsis of Ultimate Spider-Man

When bitten by spiders on planet Earth, you can normally expect one of the following to happen: mild discomfort, but otherwise no ill effects; illness; horrific rotting of the skin; an unpleasant and feverish death, even. But, when mild mannered orphan Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider, something much better followed: the creation of surely the greatest hero ever to grace the pages of a comic book. Sam Raimi's recent films and the resulting flurry of games have brought Stan Lee's greatest creation to life once again for a new generation. The first two Spider-Man games far exceeded what we have unfortunately come to expect from games of film licenses. Now, shrugging off the restrictive creative shackles of a film's plot, comes what may be the greatest Spider-Man game yet. This time inspiration is drawn from Spider-Man's true home ? the comic book. Spidey comics are a confusing maze for the uninitiated, with series prefixed with different superlatives following totally different storylines: The Amazing Spider-Man, the Incredible Spider-Man. This game, as you might guess, is based on the Ultimate Spider-Man series, written and illustrated by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, and these two stellar comic book creators have lent their creative powers to Activision, providing the script and look for this videogame. The game picks up where the story of the comic book left off, and features an unprecedented number of characters from Spidey's native New York. With comic book-style frames and artwork, the look of the game complements Spider-Man's fluid grace as he swings through the streets of Queens and Manhattan. Just as exciting, is the chance to play as surely one of the most recognisable Spidey villains of recent years: Venom. A bodybuilder possessed by a moon alien inhabiting Spidey's old black suit, Venom is everything Spidey is not: evil, raging, lumbering powerhouse to his upright, wisecracking, nimble webslinger. It gives the game an added, welcome dimension to the gameplay developers Treyarch honed in the last title. Spidey fans should look no further for their next fix.

I am a big fan of Spiderman. That is why I rented this game. The beginning of the story looks promissing. Then the game begins.

The only part I don't like about it (I have not yet finished the game), you have to follow a certain path. But besides that, I like the graphic style and the story line for so far.

Rated - 3 starsGood, but not what I hoped for

Ultimate Spiderman has a nice style too it, trying to look like its been taken out of the cartoon and put onto the gaming world. I can really fault it for its looks, though sometimes lines on a character look very thick for some reason.

The gameplay was simple enough to learn, and is fun to play, when playing as spiderman, but when you switch to venom, everything changes and you have to get used to a differant set of control for him.

While I didnt mind playing as venom, I dont like being forced to play as him after such a limited amount of time with spiderman, seperate stories would have made it all the better.

Rated - 2 starsfun, but gets repetitive

i am a huge fan of the spiderman game which came out for ps1 so i decided to buy this. which wasnt a bad move but it did not live up to my expectations. First of all let me just say that it looks great, the cartoon style graphics are spot on. But once youve played it for a couple of hours it gets very repetitive. also i dont know if it is just me but i felt the storyline was not clear, it progresses too fast without any detailed explanation. Once i had finished i felt a bit let down, as the game had some nice touches but the gameplay was not developed enough and it was very short. So i would recommend it , but only for a bit of button bashing spidey-fun and not as a long in depth ''classic''.

as a side note my disc's audio kept skipping and at one part of the game the graphics froze, i got a replacement disc and the video did not freeze but the audio still skipped, i am not sure if i was unlucky or if this is a fault with every disc, just thought i'd warn you.
