Brief synopsis of Ratchet: Gladiator

With fresh art direction and enhanced graphics, Ratchet: Deadlocked introduces a powerful and entertaining feel and story to the Ratchet universe. Having been abducted by the deranged media mogul Gleeman Vox, Ratchet finds himself a contestant on DreadZone, the inter-galactic underground reality show. Until Ratchet can work out a way to escape, he is forced to fight in an array of battles and elaborate games of death. With all eyes on him, Ratchet becomes an unlikely TV superstar as the universe tunes in to watch him fight. Ratchet needs all the weapons he can get to keep the audience happy and stay alive as the action takes place in a series of spectacular inter-planetary arenas.

A new look Ratchet and a great new story come complete with new game options, non-linear levels delivering real freedom around the game, more playable vehicles, more things to blow up and many more customisable weapons. And, for the first time in the series Ratchet: Deadlocked features fully co-operative gameplay allowing a second player to seamlessly join in the arena-sport action at any time, in addition to a massive variety of multiplayer modes.

Helping Ratchet through the competitions and tasks and bringing their own personalities into the gaming strategy are a team of customisable allied bots. Ratchet: Deadlocked is the first game of its genre featuring squad based game play as Ratchet relies on his bot team to attack, defend and assist him in strategic combat.

This engaging new chapter for Ratchet promises to deliver a galaxy of fun and laughs in a bold, edgy adventure.

Rated - 3 starsOK - but not as good as the others

My daughter played the game and only found it just OK. All the usual characters which you would expect, but after the first few levels it became very much the same and there was not much of an adventure. Very good game though if you like blasting things and lots of power ups.

Rated - 4 starsA worthwhile addition to the series

If you're a fan of unreal tournament and the other ratchet and clank games as I am, I think you will love this. While I would only rate it the 3rd best of the 6 ratchet and clank games I've played, it is probably the one I'd least like to remove from the series as it adds something really fun and different.

Despite being mainly focused on tournament and multiplayer style gameplay, it contains some of the best humorous scenes and ideas from the series. The tournament style is very well thought out and complete, and there are a few different gameplay mechanics like races and killing sprees. The big thing that's missing is Clank who only appears in cutscenes and Quark not at all.

The reason this will not rank amongst the best in the series is because you don't feel the freedom of the universe and there are few friendly characters.

Rated - 4 starsGood addition But Lacks What the others had

This game is basicly A huge Arena Contest, like the matches in the previous 3 games. [like Jak X racing is a full game of the racing in the previous 3 titles.] This works fine if you didn't mind those arenas in the other games, but if you could't wait to get out and finish it so you could play on the level more than your more than likely to not find this game as good.

However, i personally loved the arena matches. so this game was a great little rent. its graphics arn't too different from the other games but they are beefed up and it shows. There is a large array of weapon customisation and levels. you also get 2 'bots' to help you which can also be upgraded and customised.

As is the norm in ratchet & clank games there is a large extras menu based around skill points and match completion. with different skins, media, concept art & various unlockable cheats. My favorite is the weather control. the only let down and reason for the 4 star rank is the enemy's, there is not nearly as much variation as the other games and you find yourself fighting something you saw 4 planets ago just in a different color or more of them. this is balanced sort of by the new cars and what not.

All in all i would recomend this to any Ratchet & Clank fan simply becuse of the continuation and extras that will make you want to play through again and again. the only reason i wouldn't is if you don't like the arena combat of the other titles or your get bored of repetative enemys too easily.
