Brief synopsis of We Love Katamari

The critically-acclaimed, crazy katamari-rolling game finally comes to European PAL PS2's, after being one of last years biggest hits on import. Much-vaunted game designer and children's playground architect, Keita Takahashi, the has the following to say about the game: "Basically, this is a silly game that doesn't involve a whole lot of thinking, but if you will just laugh and sing along as you roll, roll and roll, I'm sure you will find it to be a lot of fun." This is a massive understatement. Players will most definitely find We Love Katamari a whole lot of fun, and if they've not experienced the gaming genius of Katamari Damacy already, then they are in for a real gaming treat. We Love Katamari features the diminutive yet determined Prince, with an assortment of celestial cousins and the eccentric King of All Cosmos. The barking mad storyline is as follows - the King of All Cosmos grew to stardom after taking all of the Prince's katamaris and replacing the stars. His fans knew no bounds and wished to see more katamaris fill the sky. The King of All Cosmos desired to appease all of their requests and recruited the Prince and his cousins to help. Now they are tasked with rolling up even more clumps, each larger and more different than the one before. In We Love Katamari, players will find themselves in various new locations around Earth as the Prince and his cousins roll up different katamaris according to the fans' requests. We Love Katamari continues the series' trademark graphical style and musical excellence with an original soundtrack and hundreds of brand new items including Koi fish, angels and famous Earthly landmarks to roll up. The Prince's celestial rolling has no boundaries; as his katamari grows larger, he can roll up literally everything in his path ? from underwater creatures to mountains and even the Eiffel Tower itself! We Love Katamari is wrapped up in a unique graphical style with an inimitable soundtrack featuring some of Japan's most loved artists. With over 40 Fan requests to complete, a brand-new 2 player Co-operative Mode and the chance to roll up your friends in Battle Mode, We Love Katamari will have players smiling and singing for hours. Never has surreal seemed so normal.

Just take a look at those screenshots...straightaway you know this is a japanese mental-'em-up. Lets face it, the 3d graphics are almost offensively over-colourful, but thats not the point.

Forget the questionable galactic story if you want; all you need to know is that you're a ball, and the idea is to make yourself bigger. Straight away i knew this was going to be as cool as it is original and yep, so it was. Worth sticking on your list just so you can say you've tried something different; maybe you'll carry on playing it as much as i do :-)

Okay so you're the prince of this galactic king who wiped out the cosmos so you've got to roll stuff up to make planets and stars ans things the bigger you get your ball the bigget the things you can roll up so obstacles become assets as you go along

Okay I got all that bit and a few of the big gamers in work where raving over this while I was playing recommending Okami (still recommend Okami rent it if you've not tried it)

So what's the problem it's just too little variety maybe I gave up too early 4 or 5 adventures in but it's arrive somewhere roll up little stuff roll up medium stuff and try and sneak in under the timer to troll up the big stuff (not all adventures are timer based some are objective based like get 100 items) try and find the presents and relatives on each level (no idea if the presents helped they certainly didn't seem to )

This just wasn't for me it's one you'll find charming or pointless and I came down in the pointless camp

Rated - 3 starsThis is some crazy ass shit

Roll a ball 'Katamari' around and make stuff stick to it until it is masssive. Thats about it..... However it's very addictive and quite relaxing. The graphics aren't anything spectacular but they do have some sort of charm quality. The best part of the game is when the king lasers your little man to death shouting put downs at him if you fail the challenge. The only downside is that I found it to be a bit repeatative. Worth renting, but don't buy.

Rated - 1 starsPrince's New Clothes!

Doigy from Leeds , 18/07/2007

The Prince has no clothes!! I've read the rave reviews, but I must missing the point. I hated it. The graphics aren't simplistic, they are just plain bad, the king's incessant talking is boring and annoying, and the whole principle of the game is ... inane. I can have more fun making my own katamari sitting on the living room floor; cat hair, escaped cheerios, bits of paper, etc. And then at least I have a clean carpet.
