Rating of 4 stars out of 5 Radio Times

This big-screen sequel to the 1967 TV episode Space Seed is truer in spirit to the beloved space opera than the first feature and a firm favourite with some fans. Here, genetic superman Ricardo Montalban wreaks vengeance against the Enterprise crew for sending him to a prison colony. Nicholas Meyer — who also directed Star Trek VI — stresses the narrative values that made the original series so compelling and vibrantly weaves the thematic motifs of life, loss and adventure together as he expertly continues the saga. Leonard Nimoy has rarely been so moving.

Variety

"...A very satisfying space adventure....Bound to captivate 'Trek' fans and with premiere special effects to attract other space [picture] enthusiasts..."

Halliwell's Film Guide

Comic strip capers a long way from the controlled intelligence of some episodes of the TV series; but more entertaining than the first movie.

Rated - 5 starsThe Best Trek!

John-James Worrall from Warrington , 06/11/2003

KHAAAAN!

The second Trek installment went back to the Original Series and took the best elements, mixed them in with a good budget, fine story and top class direction. The result the best Trek movie ever.

The directors edition of this is a little redundant. There are a few little interesting aditions, but it is most notable fo rthe ommision of the confirmations of Savikks half Romulan parentage (showing that Kirsty Alley was not a poor actress by showing an emotional vulcan). The scene exists as any quick search on Google will get you an MPEG of Kirk and Spock discussing this after the Simulator exercise.

Mayers commentary is hard work to listen to. He's not exactly the captivating of speakers. But in the end who cares. Ricardo Montalban plays the ultimate adversary for Kirk and dominates every scene he is in. Shatner presents a more mature Kirk than in even later movies and the cast work well.

By far the best paced, most entertaining Trek movie. Enjoyable even for non-Trekkers.

Rated - 5 starsIf you only see one Star Trek Movie watch this one

Truely the best in the series of ST movies.

Worth watching even if you are not a fan.

Recardo Montalban is superb as the vengence obsessed Khan, this performance alone raises this movie head and shoulders above all the other Star Trek movies.

Rated - 5 starsThe Best of the Original Cast movies

Brett Lock from London, England , 22/08/2005

After the puzzling mess that was the firts attempt at a Star Trek movie, The Wrath of Khan got back to basics - a compelling story driven by characters rather than the attempt at awe and mystery (i.e. experimental special effects) of the first movie.

This movie sees the return of one of the original TV series' most memorable characters - the eugenics war refugee, Khan, who is wants revenge after Kirk and crew banished him to a far-off planet.

Loads of action, and of course the legendary cry from Kirk : Khaaaaannn!!!

This movie also has a dramatic climax, with the death of a major character.

This is where the story really begins. Ignore the first Star Trek movie and pretend it isn't part of the canon.

Rated - 2 starsIts life jim but not as i'd like it

bradders64 from south east uk [Highly rated reviewer] , 04/02/2008

My good God, Live long and prosper? This film makes you realise how short life is, too short infact to waste it on overly slow, contrived and mundane films such as this very one. There were conversations that took place between the actors which seemed to physically bore them as they stumbled through each jargon filled sentence, i like sci fi and i like to give things a chance, i cannot accept this as a work of good or even average sci fi when i have seen what has been achieved by the liks of star wars and 2001 before this. Lucas knew about pacing as did Mr Kubrick. Unless you are in a room with nothing else but a Tv, dvd player and this film then avoid it and watch star wars again.

Rated - 4 starsThe Best Star Trek Film

John Howes from worcester, England , 26/06/2006

I'm not a massive fan of Star Trek, but as a science fiction fan I tend to watch most of the Trek films.

This one is a corker. This is easily the best written, best acted, and best looking of the star trek franchise. William Shatner does his best acting job to date, creating a very believable 3D character - There are some genuine moments of pathos in this film, where the consequeces of war are all too real. The story is an age old tale of revenge, and redemption told as space opera (George Lucas take note), the special effects do look a little dated by todays standard, but they all play an integral role in the story. The space battle near the end like ancient Galleons squaring up is excellent. There will be no dry eye in the house when the film ends.

So why only 4 stars? The Transfer to DVD is very grainy. This film deserves a Star Wars style digital makeover.
