Brief synopsis of King Kong vs Godzilla

The two mightiest monsters of all time battle in the thrilling adventure classic King Kong Vs Godzilla. When an underhanded pharmaceutical company goes to a remote tropical island to steal King Kong for advertising purposes, they get more than they bargained for when the gigantic ape attacks an unsuspecting village and an enormous octopus. Meanwhile, far below the sea, a submarine crew unleashes reptilian terror when they melt a block of ice and release the ferocious Godzilla from his icy lair. When both destructive monsters descend on Tokyo, it's a fight that holds the future of mankind in the balance in this knock-out film that was the first theatrical release to bring its larger than life contenders to the big screen in glorious colour.

This attempt to bring together the cinema's two iconic monsters is lighthearted in approach and is played strictly for laughs. Kong is played by a man in a suit to bring him into line with the Godzilla 'suitimation,' rather than the animated model used by Willis O'Brien. The Kong suit, unfortunately, looks rather moth eaten. My favourite bit is the way the crew from the chemical/TV company win over the natives on Skull Island, by offering them cigarettes! Very un-PC! The fights between Kong and Godzilla are played like an over-the-top wrestling match, and there is no overall winner, despite rumours at the time which said that there was a different ending to the US version of the film compared to the Japanese version. This DVD is the first UK DVD release of a Godzilla film apart than the Tristar film and cartoon, and is released as part of the King Kong Collection DVD set. As such there are not any extras on the DVD.

Two men in suits stomping around and pretending to be huge creatures, showing their massive size by jumping up and down like hyperactive children. Excellent.

Also includes the wonderful exchange “What’s happening ?” “Giant Octopus”.

I couldnt stand it at all.

This is not original Godzilla from Japan but Hollywood.

They edit quite badly.

Just watch the original Godzilla.

Not to be taken seriously, King Kong Vs Godzilla is a surprisingly enjoyable crossover from the folks at TOHO, that B-Movie fans will love to have a giggle at. It has it's dull moments here and there, but the fights between the two beasts make it all worth it, as they will have you in hysterics. If you're not a fan of either franchises, you won't want to bother with this, obviously.
