Brief synopsis of Victoria And Albert

A dramatic miniseries featuring an acclaimed, superstar cast, VICTORIA & ALBERT is a history-based love story which tells of the passionate romance between the two royal figures. This epic production recaptures the court life of Victorian England with beauty and accuracy. In addition, it adds new light to the legendary character of Victoria (Victoria Hamilton), portraying her as young and full of life, as opposed to the repressed elderly woman often depicted in British culture. The TV movie also stars Jonathan Firth, Jonathan Pryce, Peter Ustinov, Nigel Hawthorne, and Diana Rigg.

Queen Victoria is just such a wonderful monarch and certainly the most popular of the entire royal line. This two DVD set tells the story of the life she endured as a teenager and her troubles with her mother. Her attempts to find a suitor and the constant battling between families of that Victorian dynasty.

The acting is very good and there are some interesting performances from Diana Rigg and Patrick Malahide, although the show is stolen by the central characters playing Victoria and Albert.

This was an intensely moving film and even though it is essentially a documentary, one wonders what exactly Queen Victoria would have thought about it had she been alive today. The music by Alan Parker is needless to say, enchanting. A true masterpiece and not to be missed.

A real joy to be able to view history with the light touch of humanity.

I felt like a privileged viewer of this very private and public drama.

An exellent cast who played with dignity and Honesty.

Rated - 4 starssympathetic victoriana

A generous, thoughtful attempt to give Queen Victoria more character and depth than she is has previously been allowed. This is far from the starchy, moralising image of the queen that has been the caricature. Yet it remains historically sensitive. Scenes of her early childhood and pushy mother are particularly good. Her successful and loving marriage is portrayed beautifully and Jonathan Firth as Prince Albert is outstanding. Well worth watching.
