Brief synopsis of Merlin's Apprentice

The great sorcerer Merlin has returned to Camelot, a Kingdom now vulnerable to ill-fates and war since the theft of the Holy Grail, its greatest gift and protection. With the help of Jack, an irascible young beggar-thief imbued with his own unruly magic, the fight against unknown dangers begins - to find the Grail, restore it to its rightful place, and bring Camelot back to it glory days.

Rated - 5 starsFantastic sequel

Not many 'sequels' stand up to their originals. Here is an exception. Sam Neil is the perfect casting for Merlin, just the right amount of pathos, humour and aggression.

A star studded cast with the delectable Miranda Richardson make this a film really worth watching. This a must for anyone interested in Arthurian legend, Wizards and folk lore. TERRIFIC !!!

Sam Neill does a good job here in the sequel to his original Merlin movie. The sets and costumes are interesting, though everyone looks rather clean for the time it is set in. The plot moves along nicely and the apprentice is likeable enough. Probably not as fresh as the first movie, but it's still worth watching.

Rated - 3 starsLong Film but watchable

This was a very long film and despite this it does seem quite watchable. I thought the storyline was good and it the kind of movie that should appeal to Potter fans although not a ppatch on them. It is also great for kids which is quite something for such a long film and

If you liked the original merlin and were hoping for more of the same then avoid this very poor "sequel".

Set in an alternate reality to the first. Merlin is almost a completly different character and is no longer identifiable as he was before and makes a very brief appearence in the movie. The same can be said for Miranda Richardson's Lady in the lake, who like all the characters seriously lacks any depth.

The storyline itself leaves alot to be desired at is largely sporadic with the editors seemling deciding to change the mood and direction along the way. The film does come into its own a little at the start of the second part but its short lived.

The quality of special effects, sets and camera work are very poor throughout and will disillusion anyone trying to get into the story who has seen a movie after the 1980's.

If you must, rent this film but don't expect to enjoy it.
