Rated - 5 starsPeriod film with excellent acting

Beautifully shot, excellent acting with all the right people in the leads.

Tristan (Marco) is a hero who has been taken under the wing of Rufus Sewell in the days when England was several kingdoms with everyone wanting unity under one King. Except that some are prepared to be underhand about it.

Fight scenes are missing the gore of Gladiator and Troy so are probably suitable for younger viewers.

Tristan inadvertently falls in love with the betrothed of the King, and nobly struggles to keep it under control.

The romance develops gently without explicit scenes, and leaves space between the characters that leaves you empathising.

Tension mounts because of impending battle, deception, and the developing love interest, which as you suspect throughout does end in (someones) tears. Rufus Sewell is outstanding throughout, with an understated selfcontrol and inspiring leadership.

This is an excellent film - excellent acting, beautiful scenery and a great love story. Top that with some great battle scenes and a complete abscence of obscene language and you have one great movie. Highly recommended!

Rated - 4 starsDon't fight it

A customer from London , 21/02/2007

Alright it's easy to knock this kind of sub-Arthurian stuff, and I was half expecting Tristan to stumble on a heavy metal band when exploring the catacombs, or for all of Isolde's clothes to accidentally fall off (actually they do at one point, when attempting to relieve his hypothermia). But basically it's a beautifully filmed, scored and acted adaptation of an ancient legend that only a curmudgeon could curse. Lots of chivalry and undying devotion for the ladies, lots of fisticuffs for the lads...

Rated - 5 starsBeautifully told tragedy

A customer from Brighton , 30/11/2006

This tale pre-dates romeo and juliet and may well have been Shakespeare's inspiration. The story is beautifully told - some violence but in context; subtle and sensitive sex scenes; and NO swearing! What a refreshing change.
