Brief synopsis of V For Vendetta

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (NATALIE PORTMAN) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (HUGO WEAVING) known only as "V". Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V's mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plan to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption. Based on the hit graphic novel.

Rated - 4 starsV for VERY good

Their have been a whole glut of comic book adaptations over the last few years, some of them good (X-Men, Blade) some of them bad (The Punisher, Cat Woman) but none of them in the mold of V for Vendetta. None of them as strange and as brilliant and as intelligent as this. Don't watch this expecting lots of fantastic CGI fight scenes, there are only a couple and they are quite small scale but in doing this V doesn't sacrifice style, it has oodles, but the content is considerably more important with a story line more pertinent today than it has possibly ever been. In the not too distant future a totalitarian British government uses fear of terrorism to inflict marshal rule on the masses to keep everyone in their place. Only one man questions this way of governing and decides to rabble rouse the rest of the public. This one man is a modern day Guy Fawkes. The ensuing story is fascinating, hugely emotional, thoughtful, humorous, very dark and strangely romantic - keeping your full attention for the 2hr duration, there are no weak spots in the plot and the acting of Natalie Portman is exceptional. Some strong violence and swearing and an intelligent story line seperate this from the other comic adaptations and make it definitely an adult film, one for grown ups who usually find themselves drawn to cult classics rather than the mainstream Hollywood fare. Very near to being a 5 star movie.

Rated - 2 starsV for Voice like Ronan Atkinson

This was a weird, dark film. I thought it would be a Superhero type movie, but the end result wasn't really about a superhero. It was like a man in a Fathers for Justice type costume fighting against a Nazi State Britian. Its very long winded and most of it doesn't make sense. I gave it 2 stars for the little bit of action that it does have and for the funny 'Blackadder' voice that 'V' the guy in the costume has.

Rated - 4 starsGreat! Watch it!

Alan Moore's masterpiece was brought beautifully to the big screen. Sure, it was altered from the original 'Graphic Novel', but it had to be really! Try not to compare them too much!

Hugo Weaving was excellent; Natalie Portman was beautiful, even Stephen Fry pulled off a superb performance!

With explosions, fireworks, seamlessly added Shakespeare and flawless fight scenes, trust me, you have to watch this.

It’s a completely different type of film.

Doesn't get 7 out of 7, as it had its moments of cheese, but I suppose what film doesn't!

Rated - 4 starsWorth Watching

After reading the reviews for this film when it came out I was not expecting much. Maybe thats why I really enjoyed this film. V for Vendetta is a well written and directed film that will keep you gripped and entertained throughout. Although it does dip a little in the middle it regains the momentum and has a good ending. Only warning is when you first see 'V' in the film (right at the beginning) dont be put off by his long winded speech and babble. He never really repeats this and you will be thankful.
