Brief synopsis of Prey

Tommy is a simple garage mechanic on his home reservation. He dreams of bigger things, like venturing out into the bigger, wider world, away from his family and his roots. But his girlfriend Jen wants to stay - to build her life there. She runs the reservation's Roadhouse, a popular meeting place/hub/watering hole for the locals. Jen loves her home and work, and can't understand why Tommy would want to leave. Talking of leaving? Prey's story begins in the men's room at the Roadhouse. Suddenly, there's an eerie light bathing the whole building and the roof is being torn away. The strange lights in the sky were what folks most feared - unidentified flying objects - and as the roof came away from the Roadhouse, the giant craft beamed everyone aboard. From this point on, things get seriously weird, as Prey begins to toy with your mind. The ship that Tommy has been beamed aboard is a living breathing entity, reacting to what goes on within and around it. Prey is no ordinary FPS in that it raises the expectations of the genre and then subjects it to some extraordinary gameplay features, such as wall-walking, gravity manipulation, spirit-walking and an aggressive environment fraught with danger. Throughout Prey, Tommy interacts with three different environments: the physical world of humans and alien; the co-existing spirit world of aliens and humans that contains hidden features that Tommy can use to his advantage; and the death world, where Tommy must fight wraiths to return to the physical world: normality, if that's what it really is. Prey has been in the pipeline for a long, long time, and originally solely as a PC project. The wait has been worth it, and Prey is certainly worth every minute invested by the developer, and every penny spent by the punter to get a hold of this mind-warping game that packs not only an emotional punch, but the visceral type too.

Well just a few simple words for this dire game.. DO NOT RENT,DO NOT BUY.

It is truely shocking you never know in which direction you are going and the suprise attacks from these aliens leave a lot to be desired.

This is one of the worst games I have ever played, well with the exception of JUMPER.

Rated - 4 starsPretty Shooter Fails In Multi

Steve Kennedy from Bristol , 26/07/2006

Prey Is Easily one of (if not the)best looking shooters out on the 360,The graphics are sharp and the textures are belivable.(The gooey looking alien living ship really comes to life when you see the lighting reflect off of it)

Another Note to add about the graphics is the lighting and effects prey delivers excellent lighting and shadows better then most.

The sounds on the other hand is slighty limp your assault does sounds as you'de want it sound for you main weapon in the game, the sniper fire though is assuring lous and cracky as you watch the tracer streak into your ensuspecting targets head.

The single player is the jewel in preys crown abit easy to go through as you cant really die but still excellent.the non dieing thing is abit new. when you lost your health instead of dropping dead like anyone normal would do you mearly get taken to a spirit realm where you shoot wraiths to regain health and spirit.

This makes the game abit too quick to run through,But also refreshing as you dont have to play through an entire level just because you made a mistake at the end.

The enemys themselfs are varied each with the own strenths and weeknesses which you will have to learn to take advantage of in order to become more effective.

You'll find yourself burning through the Singleplayer campagin in little over 4-5 hours if you a decent gamer though the replay value for some extra gamerpoints is there in the form of a cheroke mode which is slightly more difficult.

The big let down with prey is the multiplayer mode over xbox live. The lag issue is quite shocking its almost impossible to play,And the rocketlaucher whores make the game so repetitive its not worth playing.

If your looking for a really good XBL game maybe wait til Brothers in arms 3 or Call of Duty 3 comeout which both have said to offer interesting multiplayer aspects.

also huxley(which is due for release in september)

This game is an online FPS/RPG where you'll be able to build up your character over time and playing and fighting in battles.

Overall:

single player=excellent

multiplayer=useless.

4/5

good but Let down by shoddy Multiplayer

Rated - 4 starsSingle Player Brilliant, Multiplayer Awful

I had been looking forward to Prey since I had seen a trailer for it, crazy portal jumping shooter = cool to me. Then i played the demo and was happy, but it wasnt as good as i thought, but i still got it regardless. Im glad i did, its simply amazing. The story is very good, i wouldnt be surprised if there was talk of a script for a film soon. Gameplay was very good aswell, it was smooth through out with no hic-ups or glitchs i could notice, and the graphics were superb on my HD projector (the game looks quality 100' wide)

The only letdown, is a big letdown, the online side of things is terrible, to begin with theres only two game modes, deathmatch and team deathmatch. Lag, this game is full of it, you turn to fire, but its too late, the lag hit you, your dead. The multiplayer is very PC like, so if you like your quick action Quake 3 style online mode you may like this.

Overall this would definatly deserve 5 stars, but the online aspects of the game drag it down to a four, shame.

Native American rediscovers his heritage and saves the world from aliens.

It's graphics are awful. The weapons and levels are generic. Nobody plays the multiplayer (which isn't that bad actually), and the characters are 2D cliched and in some ways racist (the story starts in a bar, and I think grandpa is an alcoholic).

Played it, traded it
