Brief synopsis of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II is the sequel to the critically acclaimed RTS game The Lord of the Rings and gives Tolkien fans the chance to experience all that Middle-Earth was meant to be. It's certainly the closest that you have ever been able to get to the fantasy master's original vision of Middle-Earth in a videogame. The game boasts a load of new content from Tolkien's original fiction, which means that you can delve deeper into Middle-Earth than ever before and engage in new battles that go way beyond the award-winning movie trilogy. You might, for example, choose to wage a bloody war in the North and assume command of the most mythologised civilisations in all of Middle-Earth's history ? the Elven and Dwarven armies. You might instead choose to fight on the side of Evil with various heroes and creatures that have never been seen in The Lord of the Rings films. If you are something of a homemaker, you may even build your own landmark castle with fully customisable and upgradeable fortresses and walls. That should keep those pesky Orcs at bay! Defend or overtake never-before-seen lands of Middle-Earth such as Dol Guldur, The Misty Mountains, and Mirkwood, as you unleash powerful new weapons and abilities - summoning dragons, causing volcanoes to erupt, or bringing down cataclysmic lightning strikes. But beware, with greater power comes greater adversity. Your enemies, commanded by a powerful new AI system, possess a greater tactical edge and more powerful spells. Will your armies have the fortitude to persevere? This superb RTS is a must for fans of Middle-Earth and fans of great strategy games too.

For a relative newcomer to a so-called strategy game, you can't help but be drawn in to the complexities of this game and its flexcibility to attack. Who wants to be a goodie, when you can raise unholy terror as your troop of mountain trolls lay waste to groups of prissy elves and their ever-so prim buildings and trees.

This game may seem a little fiddly with a steep learning curve with the control system at first, but soon you find yourself adept at multi-tasking even if you are a bloke, with plenty of adrenaline to keep the goldfish-attentioned action gamer amused. All that with a load of familiar characters, a rewarding single-player campaign and all kinds of online scenarios, there's plenty to keep you out of the sun this summer.

Excellent game ignore the reviews that tell you its unplayable on a non HD tv due to the small text ,completely untrue its fine.2 Campaign modes good/evil,evil is the most interesting of the two but it always is.There is some slowdown when you have 200 orcs fighting elves, ents, dwarves to name but a few ,but the battles are so engrossing you can put up with it, and hopefully EA will fix this in the sequel as I would say this is just a straight port of the pc version and not a specifically made 360 game. The online mode is great and offers various modes capture the flag etc allthough I tend to be beaten by a 12year old american kid quite a lot(im sure they cheat).

All in all a fantastic game and a must for LOTR and strategy fans alike.

This game is a good challange (if you are trying to get quick achievements then not recomended as only 705 points? don't ask me why and they are quite slow to get) the Skirmishes are good, you can battle in Helms Deep, Minus Tirith, Mordor, ect.

well worth a rent but i wouldn't buy it.

This game is a classic and is easily one of the best games I have ever played, I love the bases of this game and it never gets old with aroud 10 missions where you can be good or evil which is a delight because you get to try a bit of both for once, the heroes on this game make it alot of fun with their powers which are truely awesome such as Gimlis 200x damage multiplayer or sauromans lightning bolt hich causes the floor to set on fire, pretty cool. The multiplayer on this game kicks ass when you have some freinds and fight to the bitter end which can sometimes take over 3 hours which may sound sad but is completely worth it because when you have the battle it is amazing.

The graphics on this game are good in my opinion especially considering that it was made in 2006.

BUY THIS GAME !!!!!!!!!!!

Rated - 1 star360 vs PC

A customer from Taunton , 19/11/2008

As this is a point and click game it would be much better on a PC then on the Xbox.

The gameplay also seemed to lag, im not sure if this was because the disc was quite scratched or if it was because I was trying to do more than it would allow me or I was moving too fast.

The story line was OK and there were some character voices from the film.

The controls were also a little awkward, you have to pull left trigger and then right thumbstick to access spells, builders, etc. On the PC im presuming this would just be a matter of pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, etc

I recommend if you have a PC that meets specs you rent it for that, but wouldnt recommend renting it for Xbox.
