Brief synopsis of Dead Rising

In Dead Rising, gamers assume the role of Frank West, a freelance photojournalist constantly searching for the scoop of the century. In pursuit of a surefire lead, he makes his way to a small American town only to find it has been overrun by flesh-eating zombies. Looking for somewhere to hide out, Frank flees to a nearby shopping centre (in a nod to George A. Romero's classic Dawn of the Dead) only to find it anything but safe. If anything, there seems to be more zombies inside the mall than outside.

Dead Rising is set over a three day period and offers gamers the full reign of a realistic shopping centre. It is up to you to help Frank find out who is behind this deadly epidemic. There are many different stores in the mall that offer players an endless supply of resources, including makeshift weapons, vehicles and much more. If you can pick an object up, you can use it has a weapon - there are over 250 items that will help create mayhem, including circular saws, skateboards, electric guitars and severed arms. It is important to remember that the zombies become more powerful by night. They may move like a snail with a limp throughout the day, but as the sun goes down they become faster and much more dangerous.

There will be encounters with various survivors throughout the game and by helping them, you will glean important clues that will ultimately help Frank solve this horrendous puzzle.

I was really looking forward to this game and i am so disapointed with what i played.

There is no story thats worth finding out and the killing gets so boring that you almost want to do something else other than play a game.

I would highly recommend that you dont play this game but if like me you dont listen :) please dont give up on gaming.

Okay this isn't a perfect game by any means (idiotic NPCs who don't listen to you and often get stuck on obstacles, a stingy single save slot), but it has many more good points than bad; amazing graphics engine with zombies as far as the eye can see, plus a wealth of options for despatching them (my current fave is the drill, a surprisingly effective battering ram!), and lots of incentives for replay.

If you want to get every single achievement in the game then it's highly unlikely you'll do so in one go, as the 72 hour timer constrains you as to how many tasks you can do. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it gives you a chance appreciate the massive amount of detail in the game. Overall, definitely recommended, but maybe a rental isn't enough to get the most out of it.

By the way, have patience for the first few minutes where you're in the helicopter; another reviewer missed a brilliant game because of their impatience :).

As an avid George A Romero fan and long time zombie movie lover this game has been a long time coming. Its not often a game manages to grab you by the scruff of the neck and drag you into its world kicking and screaming. Great characters who are obviously moulded from the developers own love of the genre make it a shear joy to play through again and again. Just keep telling yourself its only a game, its only a game... Isnt it ???

One of the best games ive played in a long time, there are just so many fantastic touches and for once the game doesn't feel like its been rushed out.

As soon as you think you have seen everything the game has to offer it throws something new at you, there have been reviews saying that the game isn't very long 6-8 hrs in my opinion as i dont like to rush through games although you are on a time limit it's more like 12-14 hrs long, the basic premise to the game is rescuing survivors and killing zombies but it never gets dull, as the amount of weapons you can use to dispatch the undead are so varied chainsaws, shotgun, battleaxe or you could use a handbag you never tire of it.

Its not the ferocity of the zombies that causes you problems as they move quite slow its the shear numbers of the undead that are the problem for example there is a maintenance tunnel under the mall and its just packed to the brim, hundreds and hundreds of the walking dead with no pop-up whatsoever and no slowdown, hacking your way through with a katana sword with heads, arms and legs flying is a sight to behold and a joy to play.

A special mention must go to the games bosses which are quite frankly complete and utter nutcases and superbly realised my favourite being the supermarket store clerk with his tooled up shopping cart.

So in a nutshell superb game, impressive graphics buckets of blood and gore and for the first time in ages a game that actually made me panic.Oh and when the credits roll dont turn it off because it isn't over.

unless you enjoy spending a lot of your time backtracking due to there being an incredibly stupid save system avoid this game.

Well.. some... crazy people might like the game, but as a gamer with high standards and needing high levels of gaming thrill to keep me happy.. this simply did not deliver... running round randomly killing zombies in ure way, no clear objective, just try and find some guy over somewhere im still not sure about. Sure killing zombies with lawnmowers was cool.. but that was about it.. most was poor.. even the gun firing while having to stand still was poor... u should be abelt o move when u shoot.. blimey!
