Brief synopsis of King Creole

Considered by many to be the best Elvis movie, KING CREOLE stars the young Mr. Presley as Danny Fisher, a singer with a knack for getting into trouble. After the cops nab him for stealing, Danny vows never to violate the law again. He manages to land a gig singing at a hip nightclub in the French Quarter of New Orleans. However, mobster Maxie Fields (Walter Matthau), soon demands that Danny perform exclusively for him. And to make matters worse, Danny gets involved with Maxie's squeeze (Carolyn Jones) and risks losing his own true love, Nellie (Dolores Hart), as well as his own neck.

This is arguably Elvis Presley's best film, and certainly his best acting performance. It's a tough New Orleans-set crime drama directed by Hollywood maestro Michael Curtiz, who invests the night-club scenes with the kind of élan that turned the not dissimilar Casablanca into a classic. Elvis has tremendous support from a terrific back-up cast, notably from Walter Matthau as reptilian villain Maxie Fields, and from Carolyn Jones as the long-suffering moll. The songs are knockouts too, especially the Dixie-influenced title number and the sultry Trouble. This is as good as Presley gets — don't miss.

In Black And white, probably the only Elvis films that could be classed as a classic, great film great songs although he never realy wanted songs in his films, also the only film that shows Elvis could possibly act, with a lot more direction.

Possibly Presley's best film. Although the story, based on the Harold Robbins book A Stone For Danny Fisher could be described as both hackneyed (ghetto boy gets into trouble, rises above it and eventually makes good finding true love along the way) and a bit slight, Elvis makes the most of it and the songs are great.
