Brief synopsis of Renaissance

In 2054, Paris is a labyrinth where all movement is monitored and recorded. Casting a shadow over everything is the city's largest company, Avalon, which insinuates itself into every aspect of contemporary life to sell its primary export - youth and beauty. In this world of stark contrasts and rigid laws the populace is kept in line and accounted for.

A sci-fi, film noir, shot entirely in stark black and white linier graphics, designed to replicate the style of cult French graphic novels, was never going to ring everyone’s bell.

Filmed using the modern animation technique of motion capture, the gorgeous visuals and breathtaking imagery almost, but don’t quite excuse this film its clichéd plot.

The style is certainly ground braking and interesting enough to make the film a worthwhile watch, as we travel through a bladerunneresque Parisian futurescape, but the lack of anything meaty plot wise leaves one feeling a little short-changed.

Huge on style, empty of any real content only the most avid animation fan will want to see this through to its conclusion.

This movie is entirely made in black and white and drawing. On the other hand the story is about a futuristic police investigation based in 2054 in Paris.

I found the swtory gripping and the film very original. Well worth watching but might not please everybody.

If your looking for a film with a story so deep you need a long piece of rope to get outta the hole, this won't hit that button. But if your looking for a film with more jaw dropping visuals than a Peter Jackson block buster, look no further. But with a gritty black and white back drop so slick and beautifully put together you won't care about the lack of story.

You must must must see this film.

Visually the best I've seen since Akira... and thats saying something

Rated - 2 starsOK, but ....

I really wanted to like this film. Adult animation gets a bad rap, and the trailers for Renaissance look pretty stunning, so I really wanted this to be a cool, rewarding experience.

Unfortunately, the dialogue was dull, cliched and laughable and the story predictable. A real let down and a waste of good talent. One of the few rentals that I felt has wasted my time.

Bizarre and weird. Didn't get it at all. I like to see colour and actors in a film.

Great visuals - really well made, but with a story as slow and dull as this it is not worth the watch. One of the few films I turned off part way through. Would not recommend unless you are only interested in the animation.
