Brief synopsis of Bones - Season 1

Crime drama BONES follows the investigations of Temperance 'Bones' Brennan (Emily Deschanel, LAW AND ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT), a forensic anthropologist who attempts to identify corpses that are badly burned, decomposed or destroyed. She is frequently paired with Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz, ANGEL) of the FBI's Homicide Investigations Unit to investigate cases. Temperence works at the Jeffersonian Institute and her special skill is the ability to read the clues left behind in the victim's bones, hence her nickname. This leads to her being contacted by the FBI to help with their cases. Booth frequently clashes with Brennan and her methods as he dislikes science and scientists, preferring instead traditional investigative work to solve cases. However, the combination of Brennan and Booth's different skills leads to them becoming an extremely effective partnership in solving cases. In some ways similar to CSI, Bones has proved to be a very successful show and displays a darkly amusing humour amongst the somewhat grim subject matter. The show takes its inspiration from books by Kathy Reichs, a best-selling novelist and real-life anthropologist who works as a consultant on the show. Ironically, Temperance Brennan is also an author, writing about the adventures of a fictional forensic anthropologist named Kathy Reichs.

Rated - 5 starsreally good telly

So a show about a forensic anthropologist working with an FBI agent to uncover the truth behind bones might sound a bit dull but OMG was I in for a shock. Kathy Reichs books are brought to life as Dr Temperance Brenning helps to solve murders by simply looking at bones and determining who they are, what they looked like, weapons used, etc. with the team of her squints and the lovely Agent Seeley Booth (who named these characters?!).

The science, technology and brilliant acting make this an intrepid programme that leads you wanting more as you discover more about the socially dysfunctional characters and just what amazing processes are used to uncover identities of victims (even from just a piece of tibia!). Best of all, the serial killer Howard Ebbs, who is on the same intellectual par as Dr Brenning, makes a few appearences keeping the team on their toes and suspense high.

Basically John Doe (remember that?) meets 3lbs and CSI = unmissable.

Rated - 5 starsThis is excellent

AS a fan of the Kathy Reichs books I was eager to watch this series, and it is in my opinion truly fantastic!! For one te whole idea is really refreshingly different from 'anything' that has been on TV before. The characters are all totally down to earth, fantastic and immediately likeable, there is a beautiful facial reconstruction artist Angela, the nerdy entomologist (who's name I forget!) and Tempe's nerdy but so likeable trainee Zack, and of course the gorgeous David Boreanez as FBI Agent Booth! Every episode is interesting and enthralling, there is never a dull moment and the plotlines are riveting, each one is very different and keeps you glue to the TV. As a bonus I feel I learnt a lot about anthrology on the way, it really is fascinating. I love the interaction of all the characters but especially that with Tempe and Booth, they are both great and you can't help but hope that they do realise what a good 'item' they would be and get together! There is nothing else like this on TV!!! I totally reccommend it to all and I am eagerly awaiting the next seasons episodes. - Come on Sky!!

Rated - 3 starsNot bad, but no House. Nor CSI. Etc.

A customer from Edinburgh, Scotland , 28/01/2008

Yet another glossy show about an autistic grumpy genius surrounded by a group of quirky personalities who have vaguely tragic/mysterious backstories, one of whom is earmarked as potential love interest. The trouble with a show that so desperately wants to be House is that it doesn't have any of the requisite wit or intelligence. Characters are entirely one dimensional - you can predict all their moves, moods and banter. You can even guess whodunnit as soon as they appear on the screen. So why three stars? Well, there's David Boreanaz. Despite being the most wooden thing in Buffy (including the stakes) he has turned into an actor of considerable charm and presence, and is enough to keep me ploughing through these episodes.

Rated - 4 starsNot another CSI

A customer from London , 11/08/2008

What with technically brilliant shows like CSI, NCIS etc.. I expected Bones to be another such. I was pleasantly surprised. a strong female lead, a handsome male lead, good chemistry. The story lines were good too.

i think the lead of temperance makes all the difference. she is unlike any female character in any of the other shows. extremely interested to see where it all leads.
