Brief synopsis of Open Season

OPEN SEASON, an animated action-adventure, follows the fortunes of two forest-animal misfits. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a gentle and domesticated bear; Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) is an absentminded and accident-prone deer who has been shunned by his herd. Together, they struggle to adapt to the ways of life in the wild and on their own. Boog longs to return to the cushy conditions he had with Beth (Debra Messing), an animal-loving park ranger who rescued him and raised him as a pet from the time he was a cub. Desperate to please his new friend, who spared him from an overzealous hunter (Gary Sinise), Elliot tries to help lead Boog back to the mountainside town, but instead they are met with hostility by their fellow forest creatures, including a combative squirrel, McSquizzy (Billy Connelly); a perfectionist beaver, Reilly (Jon Favreau); and a machismo-fuelled deer, Ian (Patrick Warburton), who is Elliot's nemesis. Now, with hunting season upon them, they must all align to defend themselves against the hunters that annually plague their domain. While obviously geared toward kids, OPEN SEASON covers quite a few adult themes, including the comparison of man and beast. By pitting animals against hunters, the film operates from a pro-animal and pro-environment stance. It also conveys the importance of getting along with those different from ourselves, and encourages teamwork and acceptance of others.

Rated - 4 starsThe woods is no place for a bear!

A grizzly bear named Boog, domesticated by a park ranger, Beth, helps deer friend Elliot escape from Shaw, a hunter with a very curious mullet. When the Elliot decides to return the favour to help Boog escape from Beth he finds that Boog is very happy with his domesticated home. After a misunderstanding, Beth is convinced that Boog is reverting to his wild nature and releases him in the woods just as hunting season begins.

This animated film is not bad, maybe even quite good but it doesn't quite compare to any of the many other films such as Finding Nemo, Flushed Away or Shrek. The animation was quite...interesting, different from many other films. The voices were fine, the plot was reasonably thin but t still kept me entertained for the duration of the film and the kids thought it was great.

Rated - 2 starsShooting season

This film is a bout a bear that goes back into the wild after leading a comfortable life in someones garage, only to find things are tough on the outside. This is not a great cartoon film. A very average movie really, that could have done with a better script, better voices and better characters. Kids liked it, hence 2 stars.

Rated - 4 starsGood film for the whole family

A domesticated bear has his world turned upside down by a meddling elk or deer. He finds himself out in the wilds, and it's hunting season. He must learn to adapt quickly.

This is a very well made movie that is very funny and the animation is excellent. The actors do an impressive job of bringing the characters to life. Great humour suitable for all the family.

Rated - 3 starsFun...

It is fun.. But it isnt Pixar, the graphics are excellent, you see this 5 minutes in when the ranger roars back at the bear and his hair ruffles. It is a very effective animation, but, if you know what I mean, it doesn't have the kind of extra something that say pixar or etc produce. Its a great watch you should see it, and has some hilarious moments, but if you are like us, Disney/Pixar somehow have this market in a hat, their output appeals to young and old alike, and though others try, they don't quite match up... Open Season will appeal (possibly obviously) more to kids...
