Brief synopsis of Idiocracy

Private Joe Bowers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive.

Rated - 4 starsSeems like a lot of reviewers missed the point.

A lot of things in this film are really stupid, but the comedy is in the irony of the future people who are so stupid themselves that they find it hilarious. If you don't get the irony or realise the consequences of dysgenics and anti-intellectualism then you probably won't get this film.

It isn't just a satirical black comedy, but also a stimulus to make people think about the dumming down of our society and what happens if global corporations are left unchecked ... than is, if they can still think!

Rated - 2 starsIt's not that bad...

It's not that bad, but then It's not that good either. The film is dumb, and I do mean dumb! The tone is consistently stupid and lowbrow but never descends into any controversial areas. This ends up making the experience rather dull and flat but for all it's failings it never genuinely takes itself seriously (despite the irony in the plot itself). If you're expecting laughs, you won't get them. I have never really found any of Judge's work to be funny anyway, but I do find them quaint and affable and that's also the case here. It's not intelligent, it's not funny... but it's not a bad way to waste a couple of hours even if it is ultimately forgettable.

Rated - 5 starsA Great Mike Judge film!

A customer from England , 24/03/2007

If you liked Beavis & Butt-head do america and office space then you'll love this film. Ok, its not going to win any oscars, its not that sort of film. And its also not meant to stimulate your intelligence or emotions its just there to make you laugh. After watching this you'll notice these sort of people more and more in society. Luke Wislon delivers a good performance and I was entertained all the way through. Infact it's worth watching twice as you pick up on things you missed the first time around. I dont want to give away too much but I recommend watching it.

Rated - 4 starsfelt like an Adam Sandler film.

Bezman Bezman from Glasgow [Highly rated reviewer] , 15/07/2008

The film's premise - taking today's average IQ man and placing him in a futuristic world of idiots - is full of promise and thankfully a fair portion is realised.

If you enjoy Adam Sandler films (specially 'Click'), you'll find this enjoyable on a similar level. The same checklist is ticked - setup, setbacks, love interest, the frantic 'escape from disaster'...

There are a few jokes unique to the premise though and if you're prepared to turn off your brain at times (and still feel smart!) you'll get the most out of this film.
