Brief synopsis of Crackdown

As a genetically-enhanced agent of justice, it's your job to rid the city of crime by any means necessary. You are the extreme solution to an extreme problem as you attempt to take out 21 gang bosses and restore law and order to a sprawling metropolis teeming with lawlessness.

Crackdown is set in Pacific City, a city controlled by three violent gangs: Los Muertos, the Volk and the Shai-Gen Corporation. In Campaign Mode, you have two choices: you can battle gang bosses by yourself, or you can double your effectiveness by enlisting the help of other agents via System Link or Xbox Live. The singular focus in Campaign Mode is on tracking down and eliminating the 21 gang bosses who control the streets of Pacific City. The higher they are in the hierarchy, the better. Be wary, however, that the gang itself will not collapse completely until you wipe out its kingpin, its generals and all of its members.

Each time you locate one of the 21 gang members, you unlock a Time Trial mission that challenges you to take down that particular gang boss. A Time Trial mission is like a steel cage death-match. The gang boss' physical location is transformed into an enclosed arena, and it's up to you to battle your way through the armed guards and protectors to eliminate the gang boss and do it faster than you did before.

There are a number of ways to progress through Crackdown, but all include the acquisition of near-superhuman powers and amounts of offensive equipment with which to lay waste to the scummy gangs. You'll need technology and guile as well as brute force to succeed, and as Crackdown provides some GTA-style freeform chicanery and mayhem for the 360, this adds up to an essential purchase.

Rated - 1 starHalo 3 Beta

What can I say about this game?

Well, it's all about jumping around a lot, killing rival gang members and er, thats about it. There are some orbs to search and collect but it failed to grasp my attention. Irritating to play with a seemingly childlike style of gameplay.

The only real reason I bought this was for the Halo 3 beta invite which was awesome, thanks Bungie!

That was the reason for it rather large sales figures because the game shops are packed full of 2nd hand copies of this now......

Now that has passed I would leave it be.

My rating 2 out of 10

Rated - 5 starsBest GTA clone ever!!!

Talsar Talsar from Vulcan [Highly rated reviewer] , 22/07/2008

Okay perhaps this game was made by the same guy who left Rockstar North after GTA3 (makers of Grand Thief Auto), and he set up Realtime Studios with some cash from Microsoft.

And perhaps this game looks and feels like playing GTA in the future? .... but who cares!! it is quite simply the best GTA clone i have ever played.

There is just so much to do, leveling up your character, climbing buildings, various achievements, racing in cars, and also roof top racing.

And the biggest bonus of all you CAN CO-OP the entire game, i had not played it, tried it at a friends, bought it the next day and we played the whole game over live.... some of the best nights i have ever had gaming!!!

It is so worth it!!! - gutted there is no crackdown 2 :(

Rated - 5 starsIts good, very good

Take my advice, if you play this game put it on hardest setting and between killing bosses go nuts! do something totally random for an hour or two. that way its not short and its great fun. even better if you play co op!

you can work together for a while then suddenly kick your friend in the face knocking him over a small building! have a race, if your friend is beating you, throw a 2 ton truck at him, that should slow em down.

A must try, ive yet to find anyone who fails to smile after an hours play

i found that the gameplay was confusing and i just didnt no what i was doing half the time it has a cartoon style too it which i didnt like persinally to be honest i didnt like the game as soon as i played it but i thought I'd give it a fair trial but after a while it got to much for me and i had to switch it off. this game may appeal to some people if not many people but in my opinion i dont think its worth renting but i guess theres no harm in trying it. poor game wouldnt recommend it : (

I first thought this game was utter tripe, then out of boredom started jumping around the place and finally getting my agility up to 2 stars makes the game a much more interesting affair.
