Brief synopsis of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

In the beginning, god(s) created a bunch of stuff, and people. Eventually one of those people created the NES, and it was good. Then, Shigeru Miyamoto and co. created The Legend of Zelda, and suddenly it was even better! Now, nearly 20 years later the latest instalment in the seminal franchise arrives to coincide with Nintendo's newest console. The game once again has you following a story of a stoic guy named Link as he saves a once great land from dark things of some sort.

Link is sent to bear a gift to the royal family of Hyrule, but things just aren't going his way, and before he can leave, tragedy strikes the village. He's yanked into a twilight gloom that has covered Hyrule. When he enters that strange and otherworldly realm, he transforms into a wolf and is quickly captured. Things aren't looking too cracking for our hero. Fortunately, a mysterious figure named Midna helps him break free (the game wouldn't be up to much if you spent the entire time stuck in prison, would it?). With the aid of her magic, they set off to free the land from the shadows.

Twilight Princess is a game of epic proportions. This is demonstrated fairly early on when you are charged with travelling through four different areas to collect stolen tears of light in order to push the invading twilight out of each area. These tasks seem to span all of the known world, but later on in the game it becomes clear that there is a great deal more map than originally assumed. To sum up: this game is big - very big.

Then of course, there is the Wii Remote and its effect on the game. It might take a bit of getting used to. After all, we have had close to two decades playing Zelda with an old-fashioned control pad. After a little time playing, however, waving your Wii remote around to attack becomes second nature and really adds to the experience. Then, of course, you've got various side pursuits like fishing to really show the many uses for the control system.

This is Nintendo's big Wii offering to those of us who don't need converting to gaming, and it promises to pull out the stops and show us what the system's capable of.

Dull, terrible graphics (PS1 is better!). If this is the best a Wii can do then mine is going back on ebay. Very disappointed.

Rated - 5 starsBest Wii Release so far!

Neil Evans from London, England , 25/04/2007

When I put my name down on the extremly long list to get a Wii I already knew there was one game I had to get. That Game was THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS. After weeks of horrible wait I finally got my Wii and a copy of ZELDA.

As soon as I started the game up I knew it was worth the wait. From the moment you start plaing ZELDA looks a feels amazing. The Wii remote is perfect for ZELDAS movements allowing you to slash with your sword, go fishing and even sumo wrestle all with the greatest of ease.

Another great addition to this new ZELDA adventure is that at times Link is transformed into a wolf and you have to play the game as an animal. All of the controls for the wolf charater corrispond brilliantly to Links controls so there is no need to learn a new system.

As I am still only part way through the game I cannot comment on all of it (I belive though there is still a huge amount more for me to discover) but what I haved played so far is superb. If you like ZELDA games or are a fan of RPG in general then THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS should be your first stop on the Wii.

Rated - 5 starsBest game ever played - anywhere

Alexander Johnson from derbyshire , 25/07/2007

I did not get my wii console for use as a 'proper' games console. Mainly for the bowling tennis etc that people who have never touched a video game in thei lives can and do play.

But zelda is just incredible. The sheer level of detail in the world is amazing. Rivers have fish (which you can catch) frogs, ducks etc. Flowers have insects buzzing round then. Pretty much everything is interactive from the vegetation and scenery to the npc characters.

There are so many different ways to play the game that I can't see anyone not enjoying it. You can blast through the main quest, or (as I'm doing) meander around the world finding all the secret areas and side quests.

The lighting system deserves a review all it's own. No other game I've ever seen on any platform has such realistic and varied light sourcing.

Everything fro the mist rising from the lake when it's warmed by the morning sun, to the underwater, blizzard, rain, dust lighting is perfect.

I've seen rpg games on ps3 and xbox 360. And they just don't compare. The action in zelda is smoother, faster and the whole game is just so amazingly good looking you som, etimes just find yourself standing still and looking around for the sheer hell of it.

I've played a lot of rpg games in my time - but this is far anaaway the best. I'd even place it above the original unreal - the first game to have unlimited sky.

You never get bored. Just when you think you have a handle on the plot something else happens and you go off on another tangent. From the wolf sections (complete with wolf senses) through the horse back battles - where you will find yourself leaning across the room to get the bloody orc on the big pig wit your sword. The more you play this game the better it gets.

And the world is huge.

Everythime I think I've got every conceivable gadget going - something else turns up and open up another level of the game.

Even the throw away parts are awesome. the fishing - both float and spinner, are so much better than any other fishing sim I've ever seen, it's unreal.

I have literally just spent hours paddling my canoe round the lake in the pursuit of the elusive hylian loach. And every body of water I come to get's fished.

If you only ever have 2 games for your wii. then sports and zelda are all you'll ever need.

Rated - 2 starsSlow and tedious!

A customer from Cheshire , 28/08/2008

I'm sure that this is a good game (plenty of reviews support this) but I just couldn't get into it - it seemed really slow to get to any action (in fact I don't think that I got past catching fish and sheep). The one thing that I disliked the most was that everything that anybody said was written in a box on the screen, no voices - you could see their mouths moving but no sound came out.

I would imagine that you will like this game if you are the Dungeons and Dragons type who is prepared to devote (waste!) a very large proportion of your life to it - get out and see the world instead.

Rated - 5 starsThe Best Zelda Yet

Alixt27 from Chippenham , 09/08/2007

As the heading says The best Zelda yet. After playing all the zedla games I personally didn't think they could bet 'A Link to the Past' but I was proven wrong when 'The Wind Waker' was released. Then completely blown out of the water with this installment in the world of zelda. Even Though it was built for game cube the graphics are brilliant, sound amazing and game play totally addictive. With alot of new feature's encluding horse back battles, transforming from Human to Blue eyed beast, and a host of new and old charaters encluding the loveable (if sometimes annoying) Minda, all new landscapes to explore and secrets to unlock, switching from the world of light to the world of twilight. If you have played Zelda before or not you will love this game.
