Rated - 5 starsExcellent documentary on slasher films!

Brilliant documentary on the slasher genre, includes lots of interviews with the people who made the films possible and most of the gruesome deaths. It covers everything from Black Christmas to The Devils Rejects and plenty of forgotten gems, plus some the studios would rather forget.

Well worth checking out!

Rated - 4 starsThe history of the american slasher

sakuraba1982 from Dover [Highly rated reviewer] , 03/01/2008

This is a dvd that you will not apprciate unless you are a fan of the horror slasher genre, it starts along the same time as the original halloween. and then moves onto friday the 13th etc and then the splatter film explosion of the early 80'syou hear alot from the directors of the halowwen films etc.

It tends to stay in this time 1979- early 80's when the genre was hottest and then kind of jumps to when scream come out. It talks about the way that people were trying to get these films banned and shows you the protests etc

some big slashers were sadly missing ie the evil dead series ect

but this is a good slice of history for any fan of the slashers

Looked forward to seeing this, but was realy just a load of clips strung together, most of which i have seen numerous times anyway.Has really poor interviews with directors who are long past their best .

It should of been a lot more in depth, but i suppose it knows its target audiance.

Rated - 2 starsA Reflection Of The Genre

This docu is actually better than most of the films it lists but that's hardly a recommendation. Listening to has-been, z-list actors talk about how great 'Prom Night' was is more than a little embarrassing.

I was hoping for a balanced study of the genre but was given a, 'Slasher films are great and anyone who disagrees is a square'-type sermon. An argument as backward as most of the films.

This is quite good fun but it lacks a real critical perspective of the genre. It makes some interesting points about the portayal of violence towards women but is not in the same league as other film critiques about genres such as Easy Rider Raging Bulls.
