Rated - 4 starsVery Enjoyable - A credit to Andrew Davies!!!

Jane Austen's weakest novel is transferred to screen with all the skill and sensitivity we have come to expect from Andrew Davies. In my opinion this is the best Northanger Abbey to date!!!

The outfits were nice and pretty, the setting was how you would imagine it to be. The actors were dull, and the storyline is typical Jane Austin. I have seen better Jane Austin films, starring big names like Kiera Knightley. But this film had no one, who was new and famous adding to the cast. This was plain and simple, but not all of was bad! The music is nice.......and peaceful. Unfortunately i fell asleep watching it.

Young girl in search of husband, likes scary tales ect-2 stars

Rated - 2 starsReally fantastic, until the ending

debzeb from Birmingham , 29/06/2008

Having never read Mansfield Park or seen any other adaptations, I was quite keen to watch this recent ITV version. For the most part it's fantastic, Felicity Jones plays the fanciful, sweet Catherine Morland with a fitting innocence and is really very likeable. JJ Feild is a typical Austen gentleman and William Beck shines as John Thorpe. For me the biggest disappointment of the film was in the ending. When so much detail had been given to trivial parts of the storyline and Catherine's fantasies, the climax of the film seemed ridiculously rushed. The conclusion of the romances happened within the last 2 minutes of the whole film and some were relegated to a very blunt voice-over. When you've been waiting the whole film to see what happens, it's disappointing for it to fly by in one short scene that could have been really savoured instead.

It's still very watchable and it's definitely entertaining, but try not to blink in the last few minutes or you might be left wondering quite what happened.

For a Jane fan this film will not disappoint, though a bit more flesh than the others
