Brief synopsis of Mario Party 8

Mario Party 8 is the first Wii instalment of the popular Mario Party series. Like previous Mario Party titles, this is a fantastic party game with your favourite characters from the Mario universe, organised in the spirit of traditional board games but with the addition of several 'minigames' to spice up the challenge.

Characters roll dice, move on a board and can perform certain interactions on specific situations or via items they collect. At the end of each turn players are involved in humorous simple mini games, that require reflexes, intuition and/or logic.

Mario party 8 on the Wii goes back to the classic formula of four players at most; however Mario Party 8 on the Wii takes full advantage of the Wii remote to inject unique and energetic gameplay in to the Mario Party.

Rated - 1 starTotal Waste Of Time!

This game is a complete, utter, unforgiving and shameful waste of time.

Unless you have 4 Wii remotes and 3 other people to play with, this game is beyond dull as you try to grit your teeth through this embaressing luck of the draw snore fest.

The complete lack of gameplay and innovation is astonishing for a nintendo wii game, the worst i've played.

Roll dice by moving the remote, your character moves, you get coins or a star, play a minigame, rinse and repeat for 10 or 15 turns (Waste even more time having to sit through the computer players turns) and then maybe you'll win, probably you wont, either way... you don't care and there is absolutely no point to this game.

Unless you are getting this for very young children with 4 Wii remotes to all play at the same time. AVOID! Don't even bother playing if you have 2 remotes and want to play with a friend or child.

The Wii has a lot to offer, this game fails to make use of any of them.

Use your disc allocation on something else.

Rated - 3 starsIt's Mario Party... 8

Craig Falconer from Midlothian, Scotland , 28/09/2007

Mario party 8 is just what you would expect if you have played any other games in the series. You will already know if you like the main gameplay dynamics (turn-based board game with frantic mini-games thrown in every turn) and if you can stomach the often comical AI of your opponents... and if so then you will definitely enjoy this game. Some say that the series is getting stale, but if you enjoyed the last few then there's no reason you won't like this one too.

Where this differs from the other Mario Party games is obviously the motion controls; even rolling the dice involves swinging the Wiimote upwards. Unfortunately not all of the mini-games utilize motion controls and too many require you to hold the Wiimote sideways and use the D-pad/buttons combo. There is still a huge number of mini-games though and some of them are excellent.

The board game aspects have been tweaked and you see the action from closer than the game's predecessors. There are a good amount of brand new maps to play on, each with different rules requiring different tactics, and there are collectibles - similar to the trophies in Super Smash Bros. - to keep you coming back.

Overall this is a great game for a Mario Party fans, but it's certainly an evolution rather than an evolution. If you know what to expect you won't be disappointed.

Dont expect to jump straight into a collection of great multiplayer games. there's boring board game style games to complete before you can play much else.

Rated - 2 starsBored Game

Simple party games mainly for kids.

Main game is so slow I'd be surprised if anyone finished a game.

Mini games are fun for the most part, but this gets tedious pretty quick.
