Brief synopsis of Spider-Man 3

It wouldn't be a big, splashy, blockbuster film release without the obligatory game tie-in, would it? Spider-Man 3 is no exception. The good news is that where movie licenses generally have a reputation for lazy development, games based on the Spider-man films have a reputation for quality and good, wholesome fun.

While Activision's promising fun this time around, we can't promise that it'll necessarily be wholesome. Spider-Man 3 marks the appearance of the black costume. If you don't speak nerd, the black costume is a symbiotic life form that enhances Spidey's speed, strength and agility. The bad news is that it has some rather nasty effects on his personality, making him frankly a bit of a dick.

Don't worry though. The unveiling of Spidey's dark side doesn't mean you'll be playing through hours of him fighting his inner demons and emotional turmoil, oh no. As well as the film's villains, the Sandman, the Hobgoblin and Venom, you'll take on Spidey classics such as The Scorpion, The Lizard, The Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter and more.

Rated - 4 starsGreat for spidey fans and rental.

I thought the game was great for a week of play, enough time to pick up the majority of achievements from the story villans and several extras from swinging around the city fighting crime as it happens.

There are many fun extras that vary the game. bomb disposal which gives you varied puzzles and some button mashing. Races which are more or less self explanatory except for the tricks you sometimes have to do. Skydiving games which is hard to understand and control, at least for me. And there's also combat tours which involves swinging from place to place disposing of increasingly difficult gangs of enemies.

Some say the camera is a bit funky sometimes but that's only when web swinging since the camera is effected by the direction you're moving. Simply put, don't use the right analogue stick when swinging around, I don't think there is a way to control it well. The camera is a little disorientating when crawling along walls sideways or down but it's the way spiderman would see things, you get used to it after you've tried it a few times.

Most of the achievements are gained simply in the course of the story but there are many others for those that hunt a challenge. As a whole they're neither too easy or hard but don't require a lot of time in order to get them, it's more based on skill.

The action sequences are fun too, involving button combinations in order to complete feats of skill. Sometimes annoying when you fail but most repeat automatically and the others are battle finishers which hurt you if you make a mistake.

It's not a perfect game but as a movie tie in and short rental game, it's the best I've ever played.

Well worth a rent!

You can get s decent amount of gamerscore from this game by simply just completing the missions and better yet have fun along the way.

Rated - 4 starsUnderated Game

Leigh from England , 25/07/2007

This game was way too underated. I thought it was really good, Swinging through the city makes you actually feel like your Spiderman. The Graphics were pretty good if you take into notice the fact that the city is so large. It is pretty short, but it will last a while if you play in hour long bursts. I don't think I'd buy it just cos of the shortness, but definetly worth a rent. 4*

Rated - 3 starsNot as bad as the film but Not as good as it could have been!

Chris Hoskins from Devon, england [Highly rated reviewer] , 20/02/2008

First i must point out i was rather generous with my 3 star rating. If i had brought this it would definitely been 2 stars at the most.

The reason being that theres no online play or any other modes except the main story mode thus any replay value is non existent. Being a rental though thats not really important but still its always nice to have a little extra fun in a game, and this needs it!

this isnt a bad game on the whole, its just soo mediocre that its frustrating, every aspect seems as though its a hair apart from being any good. the in-game graphics are of the standard 360 variety but far from jaw dropping, the same can't be said for the cinematics though, even on the old xbox or ps2 they would still be below average.

the physics engine is solid and the game play does have moments of enjoyability between the seemingly endless frustration of the repetitive levels that either have you chasing someone, fighting a small army, taking pictures or defusing a bomb. the latter being the most enjoyable as it actually requires abit of thought and planing unlike the random button bashing fighting system the majority of missions require.

another enjoyable aspect is the ability to free roam swinging from building to building where ever you like, it does get old after awhile but initially its probably the most fun thing you'll do in the game.

this game IS worth renting just to check it out its got a lot of fairly easy achievements if your into that and it will keep your attention for a week at most, its not really worth keeping it any longer then when theres so many better games on here to rent.

Rated - 3 starsThis game is hard and boring

Paul Morel from Farnborough , 25/05/2007

The game graphically is amazing, and for people who love doing button combos for special moves you will love it, it was not for me though, and achievement points are hard to get.
