Brief synopsis of Resistance: Fall Of Man

"Resistance" is an exciting action game that successfully combines many of the best qualities from other great first-person shooters with its own spectacular visuals and a few novel twists. The U.S. and Britain have banded together in a last-ditch effort to save Europe and Asia from a horrific scourge. In mere decades, the Chimera - a species of unknown origin propagating a virus that converts other life forms into more Chimera - has overrun Russia and all of Europe. Humanity's hope for survival is slim, and the tide of the battle rests on the shoulders of U.S. Army Ranger, Sgt. Nathan Hale.

Rated - 5 starsGreat start to the next generation of Playstation games

Picked this game up on Saturday with my PS3 and unlike a lot of the first person shooters I have played on the PS2 I was immediately interested and involved in the story.

The plot involves a re-write of world history (set in 1950's Britain) but instantly becomes very believable thanks to the stunning graphics, superb weapons and truly surprising alien chimera that delight in killing humans left right and centre.

The game as you would expect has multiple ways to complete missions, and checkpoints (save points) are located about right to make you sweat when running low on ammo or health.... So far, based on 2 days play I would say that the difficulty level on normal is about right, challenging but workable, there are harder levels but maybe for die hard 1st person shooters only !

Overall, a great launch game for the PS3 with plenty to do and find, you really will be drawn into the enviroment and will be fighting for your 'virtual' life.

On starting the game up, you immediately notice things are a little different to before. Provided that you have a high-def TV, the graphics look decidedly next-gen! The worlds most annoying thing is a ported game and I'm glad Sony lined up the reliable Insomniac studios to make sure the launch had at least one stand out shooter.

This ain't the worlds greatest game, but if you like shooters, then it's a pretty damn good effort to start with. The storyline is not absorbing, but does keep you interested. The graphics are good, very good in places without being 'wow!'. The weapons collection (soooo important in FPS) is again good, without having any laugh-out loud genius guns. Are you starting to get the picture??

This is without doubt a step in the right direction and well worth playing, but think of this game as the launch point and not the end point for PS3 games in 2007. Army of Two and MGS4 look to have that sewn up already....

Rated - 3 starsA good challenge

I was always interested in this title but it took me a while to get round to buying it. All the hype on the news about it offending the cathedral gave it some negative media attention. I don't see why they had to associate a name to the cathedral, so it's their own fault when they designed the game. However, this in no sense reflects the true quality of the game.

Straight away you are thrown into action, with what genuinely felt like the next generation of Artificial Intelligence. A title certainly not easily attributed. Gone are the days you can hide behind a wall and gradually wear your enemy down with pot shots. Your enemy this time round will act swiftly and with deadly effect. You know your in trouble when you glance round that same wall again and you've lost visual contact with the enemy. Turning around now, will be the last glimpse of life you have before being bludgeoned to death.

Sometimes it's the small things in games that make them exciting, and I believe the sniper rifle just adds that extra special ingredient to make this game exactly what you want it to be. With the ability to add limited slow motion, it allows you to make sure you get those vital shots away to save your life or indeed others. In co-op mode it also allows you to slow the game down for your team mate, if they are in a difficult situation where they need a bit more time than usual to decide the best plan of action.

Unfortunately this game has been around for quite a while now, therefore suffering one of it's only flaws. Other games of the same genre have surpassed it's gameplay and weapon system. You will only need to look as far as Half Life: The Orange Box to see the difference in graphics and playability. This is not to say that Fall of man does not boast superb graphics itself, but it probably feels less so compared to other games due to it's frequently gloomy weather. In the games defence, the lifespan is amazing. Lasting a long time in respect to most games. However, once you have completed it - it's time to sell up and move on. Multiplayer lacks 'bots' offline and you'll find out very quickly that while online, your own lifespan is limited. I only say this because everytime I have been online, which has been numourous, you end up in a situation where on respawn you are sniped off instantaneously.

So whereas the main single player game is pick up and play, you really have to be interested in becoming a technical mastermind of the game and the maps to withstand human on human conflict. I have never experienced a multiplayer so difficult to enjoy.

Rent it. Enjoy it. Move on.

Excellent range of weapons and effects, good gameplay, at points quite demanding and difficult but otherwise well balanced and engrossing. As good as call of duty, except call of duty is more realistic and lacks fancy gun blazing action of this game that involves a awesome mix of aliens and exotic weapons... A winner!!

Rated - 5 starsGreat game

Graphics are basically but PS2 graphics buy slightly better. Apart from that everything else is brilliant. The game is really quite long, but not too long that its boring. Missions are never repetative and new weapons are constantly thrown at the player.

You get to drive vehicles, use loads of guns and multiplayer both over the internet and on the machine itself. Internet wasnt that amazing, and after owning the game for over 3 months i have only played on the net once. Mulitplayer Co-op is the way to go for the best out of the game
