Brief synopsis of MotorStorm

Capitalizing on its pedigree in offroad racing, Evolution Studios has created a true next-generation gameplay experience that features smarter artificial intelligence (AI), real-time track deformation, fully destructible vehicles and environments, and stunningly detailed scenery. Tapping into the power of the PlayStation 3, MotorStorm will showcase cinematic effects such as motion blur, depth-of-field, and Hollywood-style 'crash cams' that replay spectacular crash sequences during a race.

MotorStorm takes parts of Burnout and ATV Offroad Fury series, and tricks them out with impressive next-gen bling. With a dozen or so vehicles swapping paint and careening off cliffs in awesome explosions in each race, MotorStorm is as fun as it sounds, and is one of the most intense racing experiences the video game world has ever witnessed.

After playing this game extensively, it's major flaw is fluency within the game. One minute your on the cliff, next minute your off. Then you watch yourself fall in slow motion. If you do manage to stay on the track throughout a race, you'll win. Why? I don't know.

I am giving this 2 stars as it is lacking in one of the most fundamental aspects of a successful arcade style racer: multiplayer features. Many would associate gameplaying as a solo hobby, one where we all sit alone in our homes with no friends. Ridiculous. But now we are being forced to sit on our own and have no friends because the only available option is online these days. Gaming with your friends is a very social activity, however now you will have to tell your friends to stay at home and 'log on' because thats the only way you'll play together. It's a sad day.

Rated - 5 starshate racing games - loved this

A customer from on a sofa in Derby , 05/04/2007

I hate racing games, they are boring and repetative and the goal is to shave 1 second of last time, DULL! But then along comes Motorstorm, its a riot, its funny, its wild and its a blast. The challenge is finishing, never mid winning. There are a few tracks but each is excellent with many ways round them, each better suited to a different vehicle. On later levels the AI cars set out to stop you winning, which should be annoying but is actually really fun. Spectacular graphics and hilarious gameplay , what more could you want.?

Rated - 4 starsBEST RACER EVER...BUT...

...No co-op! No-split-screen! The horror! No split screen is the one thing that kinda might put people off. That is the one reason why i gave this 4 stars. But the actual game is brilliant, with a choice of bikes, atvs, mud pluggers, buggys, trucks, and big rigs. You earn new cars and races by winning points from completing races. One also thing that might put people off is the lack of modes, there is only one, which is career, which is a bit annoying if you just want to pick it up and play.

But still, i wouldn't go for race driver grid, or burnout, i'd definetly pick this up!

This game was bundled with my PS3, I am not really much of a gamer with the PS3 being bought as a Blu-Ray player and I was going to sell the bundled games.

A quick look at the games changed that, I am no expert but to me the game was a bit different, lots of vehicles to play with and they all genuinely handle differently and go better on certain circuits and terrain.

The graphics seem great, the game runs fast and smooth and is generally great fun, you start at one track and have to gain points to unlock more circuits and cars, fortunately you do not have to complete everything in a linear order as you unlock a sets of races as you score points.

The game has a few annoying points though;

Firstly the computer cars all travel at a similiar pace so you tend to either be winning or dead last and rarely anything in between. This is particularly frustrating when you first start playing.

The other thing that is just as bad is the game seems to adjust to your skill level quickly, so you can have a bad race and finish tenth in say 7mintes with the winner taking 6.5 minutes, you then go again, make it round in 6 minutes but finish third or fourth as the whole pack has upped its pace.

The worst flaw is that you have a great race, make no mistakes, set your best ever race time, lead from start to.... just before the finish at which point four cars come past!

I have found it best on many occasions to do 2 laps using no turbo boost, normally leaving you mid pack, then on the last half a lap go as quick as you can - this seems to trick the AI into going slower.

It would also have been nice to have a 2 player mode for those of us with 'real' friends or partners.

Overall I would still recommend it as generally great fun, the graphics are great, the locations and tracks brilliant and the different vehicles give a long lasting appeal - but it will also wind you right up sometimes!
