very poor game indeed i don't think an instruction book would have made any difference but it may have helped.

Snooker, 8 ball and 9 ball pool, snooker plus, and billiards and bar billiards and trick shots....I could go on and on about the options that are on this game but that could take a while!

Play demo matches, or in season/career mode and for the first time you can either play a snooker OR a pool career or indeed hybrid, which mixes both together in one tournament, or Golden Cue which is a hybrid SEASON mode!

Ball physics are as usual spot on the mark and character likenesses are accurate. Your player as well as your opponent, will react emotionally every time there's a break built or a great shot played.

Okay so it's not the fastest paced game to play on your PS3, but the wide choice of options and modes will guarantee you won't complete this in a hurry and once you get onto the online options, the replay value should last for ages and ages.

Rated - 1 starDon't bother unless you are mad on snooker

I'm not really a big snooker fan at all but I do like pool and have been looking for a good Pool game for my consoles for a while without success. I thought this maybe the one but alas I was very disappointed. The graphics are quite good but that's about all I can think to say that's good about it. The things I didn't like in summary are:

* Computer too good ... in some games you can miss one shot and the computer will proceed to clear the table!

* Background 'ambiance' annoying ... once set of ambient sounds has a high pitch noise at one point and the whole track loops about every 45 seconds ... fortunately you can switch off ambient sounds

* Online game isn't! I tried a few times to search for online games and found none!

* Strange rules ... I have never played 8 ball pool where you must declare the ball and pocket for every shot ... the game forces this and won't let you switch it off

* Aiming can sometimes be difficult ... the camera doesn't make it very easy to see where the ball is aiming towards when the ball is in certain places

* Camera sometimes tracks the ball but then moves back to show the player when it nears the pocket so you are never quite sure if it's gone in or not!

I'm sure if you are into snooker the game would be of interest to see the players and locations but it wasn't for me I'm afraid.

Rated - 3 starsWould be great...

I have the benefit of already being a snooker fan who has played the previous titles on the PC - so my transition to the latest PS3 version wasn't complicated or alien. Indeed I suspect anyone who has played a snooker game in the past (whether 'Jimmy Whites' or the 'Virtual' varieties) will be familiar with all the usual conventions employed. Others might like to use the extensive, helpful and NATURAL learning tutorial mode where you are guided through the process of potting (et al) via commentary from John Virgo. An unappreciated feature given some comments here.

Anyway this franchise takes a more relaxed view of the game than most and it's surprisingly easy to play. It feels more like watching them on TV than playing the game yourself, but don't be fooled; it's still an involving and fun experience despite this, perhaps even more so because of the ease at which it allows you to pull off shots and work your way around the table like a pro. In simulations a tournament can seem like a scrappy affair between two 12 year olds, WCS 2007 has an air of authenticity in everything despite being a more limited sim.

Don't believe any criticism relating to the gameplay. This is a very competent game worthy of praise. It's feature rich, it has respectable graphics and a fairly good (if repetitive) commentary engine. The career mode is customisable and allows you to pursue a path in several different disciplines (snooker, variants of pool, billiards and 'hybrid'), whilst the AI opponents are a mixed bag of sloppy joes and invincible robotic overlords.

Ultimately it's a very satisfying and fun game that has both depth and longevity. It's not the best sports game, it's perhaps not even the best snooker game (I could list faults but they'd be nit-picking when there's no other games to compare it to on the PS3). Online is a barren wasteland, so stay clear if that's your intention, but if you're hankering for a bit of snooker on the PS3 then this won't be a bad investment at all...

Well, if it weren't for the dreaded freeze bug that is! A problem that requires you restart the CONSOLE to fix. It's a hard reset too which can't be good for the system. I am tempted to give ZERO stars for its presence but that would be misleading. Just bear it in mind and wait for the 2008 version if this series tickles your fancy.
