Cars isn't a game... its torture for the eyes and mind... its difficult, its extremely buggy and it also breaks the first law of Video Game Design in that unless you're an expert gamer, you HAVE to use cheat codes to win..

Before you bury this as inaccurate, allow me to state I am an avid gamer of 25 years and more importantly, am someone who actually works in the games industry as a programmer. Cars is most definately a broken experience.

Maybe I expected a little much from a 'Childrens Game' but why shouldn't I when it commands the same price as any other 360 title? Anyway.. before I lose track of whats important, i.e. a review, i'll ignore that fact and tell you about the game!

In fact, this game annoyed me so much I'm just going to list the points the game standards Cars breaks rather than say too much about the game itself.

* No in game overview map when the game is split into 3 zones is inexcusable.

* Collision detection with the in game world is random. The car will almost mountaineer up sheer faces in places yet in others, the car will bounce straight off a 10 degree incline like it just hit the inside of a French tunnel.

* The catch up logic on the NASCAR racing is criminal. I didn't actually lose a race throughout it (but bare in mind I work professionally in gaming) but I was only winning by fractions of a second, in one instance 0.03 seconds.

*Cut scenes are annoying and can't be skipped - if I had to hear Doc say 'looks like you lost them' one more time, the disc was going to get snapped.

*And finally, to all the people who claim this game is 'easy' I beg to ask did you turn on all the cheats _before_ attempting some of the games levels or did you just play through the game with things like the maximum boost and ultra speed on from the beginning? I'm betting the later...

Yes, I'm sure the game is very easy when your car can go three times the speed of everyone elses but having completed this game from scratch without, I can tell you it is most definately not a good game, and not an easy game either.

Rated - 4 starsSimple but enjoyable

I borrowed this from a friend at work and yes I know you have two questions

a) What is a grown man doing owning this?

b) why did i borrow it?

Well I can't answer the first part but I borrowed it because I was running a bit low on games and I thought I would be able to get some good gamerscore. The game is very easy to achieve 1000 points on. The races are easy and even easier if you use the cheats that are available and don't stop you getting the points. The onyl challenging part of the game is finding the postcards and thats mainly because there is no map so you have to feel your wa around to find them based on vague instructions.

The graphics are excellent and each character closely resembles their counterpart from the film. The music is quite decent with some great songs on their. The missions are quite varied although the various races can get quite repetitive.

All in all it takes about 7 - 8 hours to get all the points and you have a lot of fun while doing so.
