Brief synopsis of Do Not Disturb

Dutch director Dick Maas offers a tension filled thriller set in Amsterdam where William Hurt has taken his family as part of a business trip. When the family's ten year old mute daughter witnesses a brutal murder she finds herself on the run in a strange city. Trusting nobody is not an option, but one of the people who is offering to help her is also the same person who wants her dead.

By the time this movie was made, the 1960s were swinging, and sunny Doris Day had developed a chic and slightly risqué image, promoted by her producer/husband Martin Melcher. Melcher encouraged her towards projects such as this one, in which she and screen husband Rod Taylor suspect each other of varying infidelities abroad. It's not too bad, although director Ralph Levy (The Jack Benny Show) doesn't seem to know how to find the necessary cinematic scale. The problem is that both Day and Taylor deserve much better; indeed, they went on to show what a good partnership they could be the following year in The Glass Bottom Boat. In his prime, Taylor was capable of enlivening mediocre material, and here he proves a worthy successor to Rock Hudson and James Garner as a foil for Day.

Initially starts with some stilted dialogue and unconvincing acting, but gradually builds pace and becomes an involving thriller. There are traces of black humour throughout, showing that this film doesn't take itself too seriously. An entertaining, albeit clich?d thriller with a frenetic, well choreographed finale.

Extras include cast bios and a trailer.

William Hurt (the dullest voiced actor in movie history)is in this one. Whilst this might work when waxing exposition in The Village when he is called upon for naturalism he fails. But, no worries. Everyone around him also fails with incredible aplomb - no one is spared in this movie. Least of all dear William who transforms from dull suit to Bill Willis ('must save my daughter heroics') in the closing frames. The plot - well, girl who can hear but cannot speak (tumbleweed) witnesses a murder ; she is chased all over Amsterdam (which in some spots looks like Richmond with a few red lights). How will she escape the evil machinations of a man who wants his contract signed ? Oh, the thrill... As it is Amsterdam where this lousy script and plotting has to function, there are plenty of lukewarm references to gay life (a rollerskating pair of buttocks - hoorah!) and paedophilia (conceit of a rock star staying at hotel) but little to explain the locale other than it is 'a nasty place to be'. I guess if you like to hang around hotel lobby's, or enjoy a failed 40's throwback adventure (with a bit - very small bit - of spice), or indeed, a bit of unintentional comedy this might be for you - but I don't want to meet you in the foyer. Go away. Do not this turd.

Although I like William Hurt as an actor he does have a habit of appearing in a lot of mediocre films. Do not disturb is one of them. The story for a start is very weak and not at all believable. This is made worse by the extremely poor acting. Hurt seems to be completely disinterested throughout. I would not recommend this to anyone.

One of the worst films I have ever seen. The lines seemed read out as a

opposed to acted out. Everything was wooden, and the only good part was the closing credits.
