A fantastic eye opening film showing the life of the first black actress. Very sad but very moving too. I never realised the extent to which black professionals suffered and were excluded from everyday life - like swimming in a swimming pool strictly for white people.

WONDERFUL MOVIE, EXCELENT ACTING WHICH WAS TOTALY CONVINCING BUT SO SAD.

SEEING THAT I HAD WATCHED SOM OF DOROTHY'S MOVIES SOME TIMES I WAS REALLY BELIEVING IT WAS HER.

A MUST FOR ANY ONE THAT HAS A HEART!

Borrowed this as Halle Berry is in it but after the opening scenes, we decided not to watch it as it was too 'stagey' and - did we really want to know? Sorry - a bad choice on our part.

What a star? For a second, I actually thought Halle Berry was Dorothy Dandridge. An excellent perormance. The story does not only focus on her life, it follows her trials and tribulation, her success and failure. The movie captures the ongoing racism in America at the time which was a hinderance to her winning the Academy award for Carmen Jones.

I have seen Carmen Jones, and it is absolutely wonderful but competing with the white American actresses (Judy Garland, Ava Gardner) to win an Oscar at the time was never going to happen for Miss Dandridge. The timing wasn't right.
