Brief synopsis of Cooking Mama

Already a smash hit on Nintendo DS, wannabe cookmeisters can now feel the heat in the Wii kitchen this time around as they don the apron of a budding young chef under the watchful gaze of Mama. You can create dishes from a dazzling menu of everyday snacks and gourmet meals using the sensitive and sophisticated Wii remote and nunchuk controllers. The combined controls make for much greater sensation of realism and depth when preparing dishes for benevolent but perfectionist Mama, and is just one of a whole (bread)basket full of new additions and features for the Wii version of the best-selling cooking simulation.

Cooking Mama's ingredients (we hesitate to use the word 'features') include a variety of gameplay modes, including over 200 mini-games and a practice mode where you decide what to cook, how long to cook it for, and how to present it. Mama is always on hand to offer a word or two of advice if you overcook the omelettes or sizzle the sausages a soupcon too much.

Cooking Mama: An easy, fun, cooking stir up?... Not quite!

While Cooking Mama for the DS was highly reviewed by the majority of players who graced the game, I'm afraid that the Wii version doesn't quite heat up to it's predecessor.

Simple control methods such as stiring a pot, rolling dough or chopping veg are ruined by unaccurate and slow responsive controls. This makes simple, enjoyable tasks very difficult and frustrating.

Rent: I enjoyed this game as a rental & recommend anyone wanting a laugh to have a bash. However, after a good once over you'll be delighted that you rented this title and never wasted money worth spending on another game!

Buy: I wouldn't waste a mass amount of money on this game

Rated - 4 starsA simmering dish of fun...for a while

There's plenty of fun to be had in Cooking Mama, loads of recipes from many different cuisines to choose from and a lot of time goes into the preparation of each individual dish.

Multiplayer is a lot more fun that single player but you need to unlock the extra recipes in single player first. It's gets quite repetitive but I've found it's more of a teenagers+ game as a lot of the instructions get quite difficult.

I played it with mates and it wasn't as fun as playing it with my girlfriend (who absolutely loved it!), so definitely a good couples game also.

It was a great game to play, a good laugh but did get a little boring after an hour or two. if you get it for the kids they'll love it.

Our little lad didn't want to send this back, have had to buy it. Fairly simple gameplay, three lads, one under 4, 8 and 10 all playing. Youngest picked it up quickly and all enjoyed. Chopping meat, fish, vegetables and preparing the meals and cooking with 'mama'.

Great for younger children even though my 11 year old quite liked it. Ideal game for rental as it has quite a short life span.
