Brief synopsis of Skins - Series 1

Fast-paced and full of angst-ridden fun, this British drama may be based on teenage characters and aimed at a teenage audience, but its content is strictly adult. Watch as eleven teens struggle with highly-charged issues of race, religion, sexuality, drugs, and food disorders. With a solid set of good actors, expect the drama to consist of a lot of well-played emotional ups and downs.

Rated - 5 starsBrilliant

There was a lot of hype & advertising leading up to this series, which sometimes is an indication that it may not live up to expectations.

Thankfully this wasn't the case, each episode centers around one or more of the main characters which gives you an insight into how they interact with the other characters.

I found it hysterically funny at times & also tear jerkingly sad at other times.

I really hope they decide to make a second series; I will be glued to the telly when they do.

A few Chelsea accents in there but other than that, a reasonable portrayal

of modern day teen life, drugs, nudity, anorexia, foul language, simutated arousals, practicall no holds barred. It's funny, it's tragic, it's teen life with a sprinkle of lechery from adults who should know better. A hit on TV and no doubt the DVD release will prove just as popular.

Very funny, very accurate, and worth a watch!

It's basically (in my opinion) a watered down Shameless. Foul language, nudity, drugs, and crude humour. If you like Shameless, give this a try. Not quite as good, but still very entertaining!

Rated - 3 starsIronic

Stiofan from Oxford [Highly rated reviewer] , 04/11/2007

It's ironic that this has an '18' rating as the main characters are under 18 and it's hard to imagine this would appeal to many over 18. This is not gritty or realistic more like 'Hollyoaks' with (slightly) more sex, drugs & swearing. It's played mainly for laughs and any social issues are well-buried and difficult to take seriously as a result. The characters are mainly stereotypes, especially the adults and, although the actor playing Sid is very good, some of the acting is very bad with some terrible cameos from well-known faces. This is just the first disc with episodes 1-4 so hopefully it will improve...
