Brief synopsis of Avenging Fist

Loosely based on the popular TEKKEN series of video games, THE AVENGING FIST stars HK luminaries Sammo Hung, Ekin Cheng, and Yuen Biao as three of the cadre of martial artists who have joined in the fight to reclaim the Power Glove. Stolen by the devious special agent Combat 21, the glove confers upon its owner unimaginable power. After hiding out for over two decades, Combat 21 has come back, calling himself the "God of Fists" and ready to rule the world. Humanity's only hope lies in the fighters who gather to take on this powerful foe.

Rated - 3 starsA Special FX fest

It's nice to see a film with a newer plot idea other than the usual 'you killed my friends/family, now i must learn to fight to get vengance' type films.

The setting is the future, when scientists have been working to use the 'no access zone' in the brain (generally we only use 10% of the brain while the rest lies dormant - this is the no acces zone). Using this makes you faster and stronger....

I won't go into the whole plot here. Be warned though: although there are a few fairly good fights, there is relatively little classic hand to hand combat as a lot of the fights descend into special effects like chucking fireball type things at each other etc.

It's not a bad film, but if you want classic hand to hand extensive fight scenes then this isn't for you. If you like fx driven films though, then you'll love it. It's worth renting, but probably not buying as you probably won't want to watch it again and again

Avenging Fist is one of a new breed of Hong Kong action movies (along with Stormriders and Return to Zu Mountain) that pride special effects over everything else. Admittedly, the effects are stunning though if you have no idea what's happening (or just happened) in the film, then it becomes something akin to a great light show.

The DVD features a decent hour long making-of along with the usual biogs and trailers.

Rated - 1 starsIt was absolutely dreadful

A customer from London, England , 18/08/2004

This film is absolutely boring and pointless with a waste of talent from actors such as Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung. The script is absolutely boring, fight scenes are the worse and special effects are no better.

It feels like elements are stolen from other films such as X-men (Kristy Yang's character), Matrix Revolutions (fight between Lee-Hom Wang and Roy Cheung).

My advice, do not watch it. It will be a waste of time!!

This is one of the poorest hong Kong movies i have seen. I really can't hink of a good thing to say about it. At, unlike the directors (there were 2), i didn't waste 2 years of my life on this. Avoid.
