Brief synopsis of Superman - BLU-RAY Version

Born on planet Krypton but raised in Kansas, USA, Clark Kent (as his Earth parents have named him) embarks on a voyage of self-discovery to the Arctic, where he learns the truth about his alien origins, superhuman abilities, and responsibility to preserve and protect 'truth, justice and the American Way'. As an adult, Superman (Christopher Reeve) adjusts to life in the big city, posing as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent. However, he soon discovers that whether he's flirting with hard-nosed Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) or battling super-villain Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman), hiding his superpowers isn't easy. The film's all-star cast includes Jackie Cooper, Marlon Brando, Ned Beatty, Glenn Ford, Terence Stamp, and Valerie Perrine, among others, all camping it up wonderfully.

i am going to review th Blu-ray transfer here rather that the movie itself as everyone has seen this movie probably more than once. The transfer to Blu-Ray was not bad but not the best I have seen either. Supermans suit colour looked good but in general the movie was lacking in Hi-Def detail in my opinion. The 5.1 dolby soundtrack is a tad improved with a few more rear effects and a bit more boom.

Silly plot, over the top acting (especially Hackman) and a man who can fly. What more could you want from THE definitive super-hero movie?

It doesn't gain much going to blu-ray, but as it was originally shot 30 years ago it wasn't really likely to.

What a classic of its time. Yes ok, it looks dated now, and the effects just show how far things have come, but the effort and care required at the time is wonderful. John Williams music plays such a massive role and the performances are truly delightful. Blue Ray just makes this classic even more magical.

Rated - 4 starsStill a classic

Considering this is about 30 years old, the film looks fantastic in the blu ray format. Obviously some of the special effects aren't up to today's standards, but nevertheless, it's still a classic film, and by far the best superman film made to date. The extra features were interesting. Worth a watch.
