Brief synopsis of Shooter - HD DVD Version

Antoine Fuqua (director of TRAINING DAY and THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS) takes on government conspiracies in action/thriller SHOOTER. The film centres on Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg), a former scout sniper who--following a botched operation in Ethiopia--has retired from the marines and become a recluse. Three years later, Colonel Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover) shows up with two flunkies, trying to convince Swagger to help them thwart a plot to assassinate the president. Honour and duty get the better of him, and Swagger agrees to participate, unaware that he’s being set up. Now, with the whole world after him, the only people he can trust are the widow of his former partner, Sarah (Kate Mara), and Nick Memphis (Michael Pena), a young FBI agent who refuses to give up investigating the case.
Wahlberg, hot on the heels of his Oscar nominated turn in THE DEPARTED, delivers yet another credible performance as a complicated man who had turned his back on society, only to be thrust right back into the middle of it. Glover is solid as his arch-nemesis, a sadistic character who treats the situation as if it were some kind of game. Based on the book POINT OF IMPACT by Stephen Hunter, SHOOTER is a frantic, violent race through the streets of Philadelphia, New York, Kentucky, Washington, DC, and Ethiopia, in search of answers.

Mark Walberg stars as Bob Swagger, a super duper, sniper shooter in this dazzlng action packed movie.

There is nothing particularly original about 'Shooter' although it certainly contains all the important ingredients of a good fast paced action movie. There are one or two moments during the film that unfortunately make it seem somewhat implausable and there are even echoe's of those good ole Arnie/ Stallone films in terms of taking on small armies, single-handed, but I wouldn't let that deter you. It also looks like the makers of this movie has borrowed a few pages from the Bourne Idendentity book, and that's no bad thing by a long shot (excuse the pun). What you will really notice about this movie is the stunning scenery dished out in the kind of HD magnificence that we have all been eagerly awaiting and don't see as often as we would like. This has to be one of the better HD titles out there, highly recommended. 3/5 for the movie, 5/5 for the HD detail.

I read a review about this film before I rented it which led me to believe that it wasn't a very good film. I enjoyed it and of course watching it in HD certainly improves things. A good, no frills action film which if you don't take it too seriously you'll enjoy

Rated - 4 starsFamiliar plot but well executed

Classic 'Government persuades scarred war veteran to come out of retirement for one last job and then frames him and tries to kill him' stuff. It's been done a few times before of course and it is by turns predictable and implausible in parts, but none the less enjoyable for it.

HD is superb with huge sweeping scenes and spectacular detail, this will give your High-Def system a god work-out!

It is quite often we see Mark Walhberg in an Action movie, but usually on the receiving end of circumstancesin a supporting role. In this ilm his Lead finally has character and a past to support that character. The film is about Mark as an Army Sniper who's spotter and best friend is killed in action. The film cuts forward 3 years and our old friend from Lethal weapon Danny Glover comes to employ him as a sniper watchout due to a conspiracy against the president. Needless from there things go a bit crazy until Walhberg as Swaggered begins his fight back with a vengance. This film has Drama, Romance and Direction. It is undoubtedly his best part in years. This film has some brilliant stunt work and good SFX. He plays the part like a Sniper and not like an Actor. Unlike some so-called versions of Snipers in films I have seen.

It has a ring of the Conspiracy Theory to it, but it is entertaining and worth a watch in HD. I watched this in 1080P and was impressed with the colour Temperature and spectrum spread. The Contrast ratio was some 1800:1 unlike some films I have watched which have been etween 800 and 1100:1 ratio. Best watched in Cool temperature settings on an LCD of 6500K
